Well, I've been something of an uncaring owner for a while, but I've decided things have gotten out of hand...

The bumper condition's actually been pretty static for a while now, but the paint.. yikes. Is there anything I can do to at least temporarily contain the flaking and damage? This is way past touchup paint by now, I suspect.

I'm a college kid, so what's the cheapest way to keep this from getting worse?

i would say to keep the paint from flaking your best bet would be to sand down the edges where it is flaking. use some 800, then 1000, then 1500, then 2000 to leave it really smooth, it will also help when/if you get it repainted. the only way to stop it from spreading is gonna be to smooth it out some. hope that helps, also you could always goto a junkyard and get another one

anybody else got any ideas??

Do what gearhead said, and then get a can of matching spray paint from Pep Boys or Kragen or Autozone or KMart. You can get a spray color that is made to match your paint code. It won't look perfect, because the edge of the paint will overlay the old clearcoat, but it will get you by for awhile.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll sand down the edges, then look into the spraypaint.. would some sort of spray-on clearcoat afterwards alleviate the matte-ness?

That all depends on the prep work. You can use the best paint and clear in the world, but if there is a problem sticking to the primer, it won't matter.
