Hey All,

I own a 99 CSVT. Ford has just replaced the motor, and a few days after I had noticed my speedo going crazy, when I would come to a complete stop my speedo would climb to 80 or higher and started adding miles on to the vehicle.

they have since replaced the cluster, speed sensor, pcm. this will be the 2nd time it is in the shop for this reason. 3rd time they have to buy it back due to the lemon law. anyone have any ideas of what to do.

thanks,
joseph

i had a problem similiar to this. WHile driving at a constant speed on the highway (70ish) my speedo would jump all around, all the way to 140. It got so bad that i never could tell how fast i was going. I took the car to a dealership.

They kept the car for a couple days and decided to call me and talk to me about it on oaks day (if you know about the kentucky derby and oaks day in louisville, KY you'd understand) and i was already drinking quite a bit. The guy rambled on about how he had a "team of engineers" working on my car but couldnt figure out the problem. Im not sure waht he exactly said, but i think he said that water was seeping into my main harness, somehow affecting my ABS wiring or something, and that it would take well over $300 just to figure out where the problem is and replace it, i dunno. Being that i was a little "tipsy" already, i told him to just forget about it and get the car running again.

After getting it back from the shop, the speedo worked perfectly. I know they didnt replace anything or charge me for any speedo or electrical problems, but i haven't had the problem return yet.

Mine did that but it was just the speed sensor that needed to be replaced. It would jump all over the place for no reason at any given time. I had just gotten my trans. worked on and they didn't change that or hook it up. Possibly try taking it somewhere else and see if the problem goes away?

It may be totally unrelated, but I had a similar problem on my Chevy Silverado. Both the speedometer and the tach would bounce and surge, and would usually be about twice as high as they should be. The problem was in a loose ground connection at the battery. I have no idea how the loose ground made the speedo behave that way, but it has happened on two occasions, and on both occasions a good battery terminal cleaning solved the problem. All I can figure is that I was getting a voltage surge somehow.

The kentucky derby is the big race, 1st saturday of may. Oaks is the big race the day before that, on friday. Its just a big drunken party in the infield of the track. Oaks and derby is such a big thing aroudn here that all the middle and high schools are closed on oaks day (friday).
