I've got a Sony CDX-M650, and I don't have an AUX in, but I was thinking I could use the RCA's for the CD changer to hook up a portable MP3 player... only question is, how do I get the receiver to recognize I have the player hooked up, since I'm not using the changer controller?

If anybody's got any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

It can't recognize it. With a Sony Changer you have two sets of wires connecting it. The wire that controls the changer and the RCAs that send the music. If there is no changer connected, you will not be able to select the changer option. It might be interesting to get a changer and have some type of switch on the RCAs between the HU and the changer though. You might be able to fake the HU into believing the changer is sending the signal...although, it would prbably be easier and cheaper to get an FM modulator.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was just thinking there might be a simple way to just trick the HU into thinking I had one hooked up by running some power to it through the controller or something. It's not a big deal, but I thought since the RCA's were there already, I'd see if I could use them...

Thanks for the help, Dave. By the way, how did you of all people get only 4 stars? I know you've helped me with decisions numerous times, along with countless others... if it makes you feel any better, I just gave you a five... wink

Thanks! I'm not sure what I have done. I think I may offend people sometimes when I say there are better values out there if you don't want brand name equipment. I also have had little disagreements with some people who either are attacking others or giving bad advice. Anyway, thanks again!
