Anyone here use Rislone in place of 1 quart of oil? I was just wondering if it really helps or not. I end up doing an oil change about every 3 weeks (I do about 1k miles/week), and a couple mechanics have reccommended that I use the stuff every other change or so... Wondered if that was BS or not... 'sposed to keep the engine clean or something... I'm hoping something will help, as when I got it, I could get 300-350miles to the tank (13Gal) and now i'm lucky to get 200-240.....

Why are you changing your oil every 1k miles? That's a huge waste of money. And oil treatments are a waste of money as well. Engine cleaners that you run through the engine then immediately change the oil can have good affects though. Running a good true synthetic oil (in the correct weight, 5w-30) is a much better idea, such as mobil1, amsoil, redline, etc. Your mileage problem is not related to the oil. Make sure you have a new pcv valve, new fuel filter, new air filter, clean EGR valve (if you have one), new spark plugs, good wires, and clean the MAF. If you have a CEL make sure to get the code pulled and come back to us. Also make sure you use a good oil filter, motorcraft, pure one, k&n, or mobil1.

I used that risiline crap in my 93 eclipse with 183,000 K on her. The damn crap....

It worked like a charm. It quited the valvetrain down (mainly the hydraulic lifters) and gave me a little better gas milage.

Go for it dude.

Hmm, It was covered after this post that you misread, I do the change every 3k miles, which, for me, works out to be every 3 weeks. I generally use a Purolator filter, and Castrol GTX High Mileage. So, I should spring for a better filter. Gotcha. Thanks ;]

I can't read. Anyways, why even change it every 3k miles? Today's cars can go longer than that without problems.

Yeah a better filter than the regular purolator would be good, I use motorcraft.

You may also want to thing about springing for a true synthetic oil. When I switched to mobil1, the car ran quieter and the oil stays cleaner a LOT longer than dino oil. You also know you are getting added protection from heat and it lubricates slightly better than dino oil... Though it does cost more.

Well, I change it every 3k miles, because my car sees extreme duty. 200-300 miles a day, nonstop. I've had pizza delivery murder it's share of my cars (with the exception of the contour, I kill 2 cars a year) Honestly, Castrol GTX came highly reccommended by a lot of friends, so I figured it was the best for my circunstances. I think next change, tho, i'll try the mobil 1. I still can't beleive the punishment this contour stands up to. This year alone, I've killed:

1) 1994 Saturn SC2
2) 1988 Ford Ranger 4x4

And those were only being used about once a week each, and BOTH had less miles on them than my 'tour ;] Do you think that switching out to synthetic might quiet my lifters? They are very loud, my mechanic said that it's because when they rebuilt part of the engine, they re-used the old lifters.... said it shouldn't hurt anything tho, just an annoyance ;]

Mobil1 should quiet them down some, but zetecs have notoriously loud lifters. I have heard almost new foci that have lifters louder than my 110k+ mile engine.
