Hi there! This is my first post, but I've been a lurker since mid-April when I got my Contour. -=)
Anyhoo, a few weeks ago my front passenger window shattered when someone closed the door (it was rolled down. D'oh!). Today I went to my local junk yard and they had one Contour... with a single window. The one I needed! It was a 1995 Contour LX. I've got a 1998 GL.
So here are my questions:
1) Are all Contour windows the same? From what I can tell, they are. Both fordpartsonline.com and signaturelm.com list the front windows as being 1995 - 2000. (part # F5RZ-5421410-A)
I've put the window in, but it doesn't completely roll up, leaving a lovely gap:

There IS something wrong with my regulator, I believe, but I'm not sure what. I don't think it's cracked like the one
shown in the common problems section of the site. Although I can't be positive since I've only felt around it while it's installed - I have yet to take it out and look at it. Here's a picture of what it does when you make it go up:
2) Will a broken power window regulator cause this?
I'm more worried about the window not fitting than the power regulator being ruined. Although if it's the window itself, I won't be TOO bummed since it is better than nothing, and was only $20.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
