A few weeks ago I repaired my faulty IMRC. It now opens and closes the secondaries no problem. The thing is, it opens them 5 seconds after start-up (whilst idling) and doesn't close again until I shut the engine off. Anybody had this before? I haven't had the fault codes read as I don't have the facility to do so, so before I fork out to have them done I need suggestions of things to check. Throttle position sensor maybe, or has my IMRC had it??

is it a whistle like a super charger belt makes???? does power down low feel slugish?????

Its possible that something along the runners is broken and is casuing you secondaries to hang open...or your curent IMRC is bad (but mostlikly not because most of the time it would throw a code....

The runners are fine. It's as if the IMRC is being told to open prematurely.

Ok, you did not answer my first 2 questions.....Does power feel slugish downlow, and does the whistling sound like a supercharger???

How do you know there open, besides the whistleing....im asking the questions for a reason to try and narrow down certain possibilites, because your previous description is vague and don;t not have a lot of information.

When i pined my secondars open, i did not notice any change in sound...car was just really slugish in the lower end power.

Yes your secondary plates could actually be stuck open. (i.e. typical intake gunk)

When you operate them manually do they snap right back with a lot of force from the return spring?

Are the return springs hooked up?

Whistling? There's no whistling. It does feel sluggish in the lower revs, which I have put down to the secondaries being open. I just don't know why they are opening so early though..

The secondary plates are not stuck and the return spring is hooked up. They move freely, and snap back when operated manually. I cleaned the LIM thoroughly about 1 month ago and before reassembly I ensured that the linkage and all plates were moving freely so everything is fine on that side of things. The problem is that IMRC is opening them 5 seconds after I start the car, before I even drive the car or even touch the gas pedal. When I turn the ignition off the IMRC releases the cable and the secondaries snap shut again.

I had a very similiar problem. As soon as i turned the key to the on position You could hear the imrc box snap open the secon. and they wouldnt close untill i turned the motor off. I took the box apart everything looked okay. still didnt work. So i took and old box from a local friend(thanks scott)he had problems with the box not opening(typical prob). Anyways i thought id put his box in my car just so i could bye some time. Well when i put in his old box i moved it to were the filter is on the intake. and i have never had a prob since. and this was over a year ago.
So the moral of the story is. You prob need a new box and cable. get it from a junk yard. and just move the new box to somewere it doesnt get so damn hot.
O and good luck

Good Year GatorBack belts are the smae style of belts that are used on some Superchargers.

Theres probably one on your accessory drive's.

Or if you ahve an aftermarket intake, there could be whistling.
