I managed to break the circuit board on my fuel gauge sending unit when I removed the fuel pump today. None of the parts stores I've checked sell the sending unit so I'm praying Ford sells them separately from the pump. This is for a 99 with a return-less style pump. Anyone know? Thanks John

in my area shell oil comp. had some bad bad gas and was paying for new fuel pumps for customers cars... well i called around and found out that the 96 contour has a one piece unit for the fuel pump and sending unit.. it retailed for about $350 or so for parts... so i guess you can do the same thing and call around at the dealers to find out that the sending unit is not sold seperately....

Boght the complete unit from O'Reilly auto parts for 140 dollars. The part had a ford label on it when I picked it up.

To keep costs down, welcome to the throw away economy! It's like that with everything. Not good for us types, "I can do not myself"! Or I don't need a "Book For Dummies" just to go to the bathroom! Paul

Not that I didn't believe you but I had to see for myself so I schlepped down to my local Ford dealer with the part in hand. Just as you all said, they only sell the fuel pump and sending unit as an assembly. I just canā??t bring myself to pay $300 for a $10 part. Just wondering if anyone has one lying around that you would be willing to part with. I just need the circuit board so shipping should be easy. Thanks, John B. This is what I need. Fuel Level Sender for a 99 Contour with a return-less style fuel pump.

All those people buying the smart pump for the focus should have some new ones laying around. It most likely is the same resistance and if the float arm is different then you can just switch them. You could always try to get a junkyard to pull one for you.

Thanks Steve, The Focus pump seemed like a reasonable idea to me too, so I checked with someone selling one in the Classified section. He said the sender is not the same.

Update by JohnB posted on 08/21 @ 9:28am, transferred from now deleted thread. Originally posted by JohnB: Does anyone know if the fuel sender circuit board from earlier models will fit 99 and newer returnless style fuel pumps? Just need to know if the circuit board itself can be used. From pictures I've seen it looks like the mount and float may be different. Thanks
