I am experiencing fuel starvation under full throttle when I have 1/3 tank or less(car bucks). My driveway has an incline and if I half less than 1/4 tank, my SVT won't start until I put some gas in it from my gas can for the mower. Is this symtomatic of my fuel pump? When the car has over 1/2 a tank, there are no problems.

Where can I get more info on the Focus smart pump? Is it a Ford OE part?

Also look at the FAQ section. The returnless fuel system had a problem with a pre filter screen that was too fine. The FAQ tell how to remove the pump without droping the fuel tank. One of the photo's near the end of the page shows the offending filter screen. For many, it has been enough to just remove the screen and throw it away. There is another sock style filter screen on the pump pick up line so the screen on the bottom one isn't really needed and it causes a lot of problems.

After searching several threads, I think I am going with the Walbro pump. I don't think my mechanic will will let me use the SVT Focus pump with all the modifications which will be needed to install it. He would want to use new gaskets, etc. when dealing with the fuel system. What mods would be needed with the Walbro pump?

The problem is not the flat pickup at the bottom. If it where, you'd have problems all the time - whether the tank was full or almost empty. The problem is the vertical sock filter inside the pump assembly. The filter, because it is verical, fills from the bottom (slight differential pressure from top to bottom of filter). When I removed mine, the filter was very dirty (probably clogged) on the bottom and got cleaner as you moved vertically. When you have a full tank, you can still suck gas as the top of the vertical filter is cleaner. As you get towards the bottom of the tank, you're below the clean and into the clogged portion of the veritcal filter. It can no longer suck, which 'sucks'.
My problems where exactly as you've experienced, including the inclined driveway problem. When I finally got things figured out, (I couldn't believe it was a bad pump), I just took the pump assembly apart and cleaned the vertical filter with a toothbrush and Fantastik. I also threw away the flat filter, which I had cleaned on a previous attempt to fix the problem.
I havn't had a problem for three months now. A word to the wise, I'd clean your secondaries immediately after fixing the pump, as, if the secondaries haven't opened for awhile, due to the fuel pump problems, their probably stuck closed because of carbon buildup. My IMRC cable broke within days of fixing the pump. I replaced the IMRC and cleaned the secondaries, and I have a 'new' car.
If I develop a clogged filter sock again, I'm going to just remove the it and forget about it.
Good luck,

You seem to be misinformed. The SVT Focus pump drops into the existing pump housing. The Walbro pump requires modification to the housing in order to work. I have the Walbro, but at the time we didn't know the FSVT pump will work with our cars. If I had it to do over again, I would definately use the Focus pump. Theres no longer any reason to use the Walbro.

Exactly!!!
I also agree you have the pumps confused.
Also the SVTF pump is designed to run as a "smart" pump. The Walboro is designed to run full bore all the time. It is not designed to alter fuel flow and pressure based on varying voltage controlled by the PCM.

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT !!!
- 2000 csvt 64K miles - I've has so many problems with my fuel system its not even funny anymore. So this past weekend i figured I'd fix it once and for all. In the past I have ...
- Replaced the fuel filter didn't seem to help.
- Cleaned out my UIM by spraying the arosol can of berrymans b-12, helped for a little while and problems returned.
- Then used two cans for berrymans b-12 cleaner the liquid form in the two vacuum ports above the throttle body one can for each port help a little and problem returned.
- Lubbed up the gears in my IMRC box helped a little and problems returned.
- Took apart my fuel pump and basket and cleaned it out cleaned the sock filter with throttle body cleaner and tossed the flat screen filter in the trash. this helped for about 7 hours and the problems returned.
So this weekend I when to the dealer and bought a brand spanking new focus svt smart pump #354Z-9H307-BC and a new IMRC box with cable. - THANKS DEMONSVT -
The fsvt pump comes with a unusable basket and an unusable green gasket. you must take apart the fsvt basket and rubber fittings and shave the fuel pump connector down a little bit because the fitting its a little different . its backwards .I had to buy a green f/p gasket for a contour.
Tossed the nasty fuel pump sock filter off my stock pump because it was extra grimmy.and used the new fsvt sock filter it doesn't look like it will work but I gave it a shoot and it works great.
I also replaced my IMRC box and it works great again. secondaries open up no problem but do clean out you UIM before you replace the IMRC box because you risk the secondaries sticking closed and breaking the cable.
With the new fsvt fuel pump, cleaning out the UIM and a new IMRC box my car runs better than ever !!!! its 1,000 better!!! While working on my car this weekend i also talked my buddy into helping my optimize my stock y-pipe and man what a difference that makes. it pulls like a bat out of hell all the way to redline which comes up a whole hell of a lot faster now and i find my self hitting the revlimiter all the time this car really does fly now.
This fsvt fuel pump it absolutly Grrrreat !
