i was wondering if anyone has order the sound damping sheets from McMaster? #9709T19

Adhesive-Back Damping Sheet Polymeric Mastic,.070" Thk,.7 Lbs/SF, 32" X 54", Black
$ 12.79 Each

Does anyone know what the actuall weight per sheet is?? I was told it was over a pound from their tech support??! Is this true??

Finally how well does it work.. if anyone has used any of this??

Thanks in advance...

It was more like 10 lbs IIRC. It looked, felt, and smelled like Dynamat you buy in stores, at a fraction of the cost. IMO it worked pretty well for the cost. The cabin was quieter, though most of the noise is still from the wind.

**Edit - well it says there in the listing, 7 lbs...

I used that stuff to insulate the trunk floor and wall, as well as under the backseat. I did notice a significant reduction in noise, I think the next place I will do is the doors, there seems to be a lot of noise getting in there.

I suspect that sound deadening the floor and trunk is more effective than the doors, simply because it's a larger area. What I did with the doors is remove the foam moisture shield, and after removing the wiring, apply strips of sound deadening to the exposed metal. One sheet was enough to do all four doors (not much metal on rear doors).

FWIW, on BMWs dynamat is only applied to the floorpan of the chassis, rear bench, and trunk. Their door panels are a quarter inch thick though, instead of thin plastic like we have; I assume that provides adequate insulation.
