I have 2 RF 12's driven by a 600w amp in my trunk, and 180w Pioneers in the front doors. I'm trying to decide now whether or not it would be worth it to put speakers in the back doors-I've heard a lot of things, but what ive been hearing most is "its not worth the money- the subs drown out the back speakers" Any ideas?

I'm not sure I buy into the subs drowning out the rear speakers, but I do think that spending a lot of money on rear speakers is somewhat of a waste. They are only there to provide some fill, not to play full range at the same volume as the front speakers.

I have a pioneer deck with an FIE enhancer... basically it turns your back speakers into subs. If you have this, I'd buy the cheapest speakers you can find. Also the speakers in the rear doors are too low to get any decent highs out of them. Definately replace the stocks cuz they'll eventually blow... just dont invest too much money into them.

I went with a pair of these:

Attitude 6.5" Woofer

I put a 4,000Hz low-pass filter on them to help keep the highs anchored up front.

If I had a lot of subs like you, I wouldn't have done it.

But, my Focal components up front are not made for bass (I'm using a 120Hz high-pass filter on them), and I'm currently using only an 8" sub in the rear deck. I needed a bit more mid-bass kick, and they do the job much better than the stockers. Plus, for about $45 for speaks/x-overs/shipping, I figured why not.

I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't invest much money (or maybe none at all) in rear speakers.

If you're using coaxials (180w Pioneers???) up front, get some components (toss the Pioneers in back). If you're using components, power them with a moderate amp. Those are the places where you'll probably see the most improvement in your system.
