I'm trying to get a spare key for a '98 CSVT. When I called the dealer they were asking me if key had a chip in it or something to that effect. The key to the CSVT doesn't look like it's the original ( didn't have any Ford logos on it ), so I didn't know what to tell the guy. Also, do all '98 CSVT come with the factory anti-theft system? I searched for posts on keyless entry but they ( Keylessrides.com ) wanted me to make sure first before I put in an order. Thank for any help you can give.

I believe all 98+ Duratec-equipped Contiques use PATS keys. I purchased a blank PATS key at a Ford dealership for my wife's 98SE for $35 -- and that included cutting the teeth in the key. I programmed the car myself to recognize the new key. There's a FAQ somewhere on the CEG site that explains how to program your 98+ Contique to recognize a new key. I followed it and now I have a functional spare (3rd) key!

Would the car start without a chipped key, 'coz it doesn't look like, or from the looks of it, it's not chipped, but it opens the power power locks to the door and starts the car. My '98 CSVT has a blinking red light in the middle of the dashboard, around where the factory stereo is ( I hope that's where its supposed to be ), so I believe it is equiped with the factory anti-theft-PATS system. For those who have a '98 is this right? Never had a CSVT before so don't know too much about them. Could my PATS been disabled?

You state your Key isn't Ford, so I don't know what it looks like. On the Ford Key, the chip is in the plastic key handle (near the ring hole). If your new key isn't chipped, it will not start the car. You can unlock the doors and maybe open windows, but thats about it.

Unless someone has done some serious modification to the system, your SVT does have a PATS system.
If it is an early 98 and you still have a working key, you can add a second key and program the car to recognize it yourself. If you have a late 98 and newer, you need two working keys to add another key.
If you have a late 98 and only one working key, you will need to have the car programmed to accept the new key. This must be done with the dealer NGS scan tool (WDS may also work). The going price for this is one hour labor at the dealer's labor rate.
The cost of the key itself is roughly $20.00 to $30.00.
To add a key on an early 98, insert the working key into the ignition and turn the key on briefly, immediately turn off and remove the key, immediately insert the new key turn it on long enough for the theft light to go out (also briefly). Now both keys should work.
Adding a key to a late 98 is the same except that both old working keys must be inserted one at a time befor inserting the new key. If you add a fourth key, you must repeat with the two original keys and then the fourth key.
What happened to your other key? Did you lose it? That isn't good. Old saying is man who lose key don't get no new key.

You might want to check e-bay for an after market key. I got one for my 98 SE and it was about $17 with shipping.

PATS is a separate feature from keyless remote entry. All SVTS had both PATS and keyless remote entry, so you should be able to get some remotes and program them using the instructions under the FAQ on this site.
