I may buy a 2000 Mystique LS with very low mileage. What is the general consensus on this car?

4 or 6 cylinder ?? Lazymatic or Manual ??

Read around the forums a bit. We piss & moan about our cars, about Ford, about everything. We also dearly love our cars regardless.

The 2000 was the last year of production so they are missing lots of items that were standard equipment in the early years.

V6 waterpumps (made of a plastic/cardboard type material) have a habit of disintegrating. This is easily taken care of by replacing with a metal w/p. ~$70 and a couple hours of your time.

Gearboxes can also be a problem, showing notchy/crunchy gearchanges. This may not be a problem with the 2000's. Somebody more knowledgeable than me will tell you definitively.

I would recommend, get it inspected, take out an extended warranty and hang out on CEG.

The 2000s may be missing small stuff like door handle lights and hood liners, but they didn't have all the recalls the early cars had.

I'll take missing stuff over recalls any day.
