so it seems theres no way to change the alt without removing the tierod. do u need an alignment afterwards? isnt the tierod used for toe? will the toe be off afterwards?
as long as you do not adjust the tie rod you don't have to get an alignment. You can unbolt it and remove it from the hub and put it back without affecting anything

No.

From wheel/knuckle bearing How to.

If you do turn it to remove it, then, chalk it up at that end (or tape it) before removing it, and count the number of turns to remove it so that you can turn it back in the correct number of turns.
simply sliding the tie-rod end out of the hole will not adjust your specs.

Turning the end would adjust the overall length of the rod and throw them off.

You don't need to turn it to remove it. If you should HAPPEN to turn it, tape/chalk whichever thread its at beforehand, and also count how many full turns of the end you made. Then replace it at the same count, to ensure the same spec.

ok good tip.
when iw as having my wheel bearings replaced, the dealer i had do the work also broke my tie-rod. when i picked up the car my alignment was off and i had to bring it back and have them redo it. that dealer was colony ford in meriden ct
Just some friendly advice, If you have expensive tires, any time you remove anything on the frontend, spend the 65.00 and have it realigned. It's cheaper than new tires
Front end alignment should be $40-$45.
Not in MAryland my friend

Yea they will try to tell you need a new part, tell them F You just align it! Unless it's something that needs to be replaced to be aligned properly, in which case you say, thank you and replace it urself and bring it back.
