I think my atx may already have some problems, when i was dumb, i tried neutral dropping it and it just shuttered and didn't move. i was wanting to switch to mobil1 syn atf, but with 86k+ miles and possible problems, is this a bad idea? what should i do? and if mobil1 atf is still a good thing to use, where can i get it? (haven't been able to find it).

Did you learn anything?
The neutral drop is kinda like beating it with a sledge hammer, huh.

N eutral drops are kewl...Do it again, do it again!!!

I still do! No problems yet! Gotta love the 95 mystique Ported and Polished my Intake and bored the throttle body and my MAF sensor. I love modding! I don't know about the tranny, every thing seems to work correctly still. I used to work in a ford dealership and learned that if I break anything in the tranny doing this It would only be the differential or half shafts other than that the tranny would be fine. Kermit I don't think your car did it right. When I stop I put the car in neutral and rev it like I have a manual tranny then when right before I take off i rev the car to close to 4000(rev limit) then when I shift to drive I floor it at the exact same time and the rev limiter shuts off and the car revs to 6000 and then the tranny engages and breaks the tires loose. Don't know if this will help. Yes, so you know this is not a good thing to the tranny I know this. I don't care, I'm going to get a new one. But damn is it fun to do it in a atx. The only good thing about this is that if you want some low end torque right off the line in a atx, this works great.

You got like a how-to for boring the MAF?
Posted By: Tribal Re: my ATX - 11/14/02 01:28 AM
I dont really bore it straight through if that was what you were thinking I use a small honing bit on a drill and run it inside the front bore and rear bore of the maf sensor untill the side walls are about a 16th of an inch thick. Then I dremel all of the edges of the maf sensor tower in the middle to make it as small as possible so more air can travel through the center. Then I take out the maf sensor it self and use a straight boring bit in a dremel and bore out the maf sensor air tunnel where the sensor sits in and chamfer the edges. Then I use a wire brush bit and polish the inside of the maf sensor and the air tunnel, put the sensor back in and presto I have a bigger maf sensor which kinda made my gas mileage worse because the engine now uses a little more fuel with the larger amount of air that is traveling through. But it helped the throttle response quite a lot and I can feel more pull at higher speeds. Sorry for the long explanation.

thanks for the info on killing my atx even more and on modding a duratec.... now any answers to my questions in my first post?

Sure, dont' do anymore neutral drops. If you did break something, you're not going to be able to fix it with a fluid change. Though it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the fluid.

As far as "boring out the maf" it's cool you're that handy with the dremel, but it's a stupid idea to do that. You can seriously screw with your car's AF and possibly do damage to the motor. The maf looks the way it does for a reason

my question is, can i safely switch to mobil1 synthetic and where can i get it? or is there something better for high mileage/wear tranny?

from what i've read with the cd4e's you're no better off with synethic over the standard mircon

I don't know where you get your info from, but you are wrong...

Any BRAND NAME Synthetic has much better cooling properties than Mercon does.
Mobil 1 is the 2nd best synthetic ATX Oil you could get for your ATX.
AMSOIL ATX Oil is the absolute best.
Replacing your Mercon with either will reduce the operating temperature of the CD4E,
and lengthen its life dramatically.
You will STILL need to change the ATX Oil regularly, but it is nice to know
that Mobil 1 and AMSOIL won't break down as quickly as Mercon does.

so i take it that mobil1 is safe for me to use... now, can anyone tell me where to go to get it?

most car parts stores like advance auto, o'reillys (sp?) pep boys, and auto zone should have it.

Should have bought a MTX.

Also neutral drops are plain stupid. They are however a great way to trash your transmission in a big hurry.

I would most definitely do a flush and fill with Mobil 1 (you'll need like 12 quarts and follow the How-to)

I just installed a tranny cooler. Moibil 1 might be in my future.

not gonna follow the how-to, don't feel up to the challenge, just gonna drain and fill 4qts at a time and do it often. advance auto and wal-mart don't have it, i hate having to search.
