hey anybody replace their alternator? looks like a royal pita, do i have to remove the halfshaft?

yeah, its a fun job.

Ive done it a few times. With the right tools, its not too bad. You dont have to remove the halfshaft, but others do just to free up some room.

after doing it six times I have it down to an art, out and back in in under a half hour. no halfshaft removal. right front tire, tie rod end, splash shield, belt, y pipe, alt wires, 3 bolts and vwalah, out the wheel well

yeah it sound slike all ur bolts have been taken off so its much easier the second thru 6th time around! im sure mine will be rusted on and breaking off haha

budlight and an alphabets worth of swear words is something u might wanna add to the how-to!

just replaced mine today on the 3L. Had to do some grinding on the tab of the alt to get it to slip up into the fingers that hold it in place. after that it was no problem.

I did manage to squish my hand inbetween the alt and a bolt, still hurts
