Howcome recrdable CD can not play on the factory Cd player in my 98 SVT

Try another manufacturers CDR...my 99 svt plays my CDR's just fine. I usually use Sony and Imation CDR's. I haven't tried any of my CDRW's yet...

CDRW's probably won't play. i don't think the format can be read by non-CDRW compatible players, but regular CDR's should. i have several mixes on CD. i use TDk "music compatible" disks. i have also found out that the disks have a more reliable burn at 1x or 2x as opposed to 4x.

also, check out the new kenwood deck that plays CDs as well as CDRs with MP3 encoded information on them. so you can burn 1 disk and have 10 hours of MP3 music on it. nice!

the kenwood also reads cdrw's...but it's $650! bleah!!

when i first started making cdr's i couldnt get them to play on my svt factory cd either...what i later found out was you had to "finish the cd" for it to play. its an option with most software for burning them that finalizes the disc and will more than likely fix your problem. hope this helps

i hope metallica isn't reading this:

$650 is a lot of money for a deck, but if MP3's are your thing, it's worth the money you would normally spend on CDs. and the convenience of virtually never having to change a disk is key.

also, some CDR software packages use the term "Verify" after they finish a burn. although i don't think verifying changes any of the information on the disk, it is usually a good practice.

Burn the cd-r's at 1 or 2 speed, burn them any faster can cause problems with certain players as well..

As a PC guru dude, I say you guys are pretty correct.
1. You may burn some CD's at 4x-8x for use in the car, but above 2x the quality of the disc relies heavily on the CD media itself and on the burner. If you have a cheap 4x-8x burner, only burn at 2x to play in the car. If not, burn at 8x, that's what I do.
2. Don't buy cheap-o CDR's to use in the car, you're not buying the CD, so how bad is it to spend 1.50 per CD-R?
3. Finalize (Close) the disc. When you use something like Adaptec Easy CD Creator, you can look in the burning options and see "leave disc open" and "close disc". If you aren't adding any tracks and you want to use the disc right away, close it or it will not play anywhere but in your CD-Recorder.
Later...

One quick thing...you did remember to convert the mp3 to wav right? If not...it won't work.

Best option on the market right now is probably Aiwa's new head unit. It reads cdr/cdrw/and mp3. So u can burn mp3 to a cdr w/o having to convert to wave file. this means u can have one cdr with hours and hours of music. Or burn to a cdrw and change the mp3s on it. And its way cheaper than kenwoods $650. The aiwa is $250-300.

oooooh! i like that price, but it's an aiwa. everyone i know who has one of their mini systems has had the 3 disc changer brake after about 1 or 2 years.

also, i usually burn AIF files onto CDs. i have found them to be more reliable than WAV. also, i think the quailty is better when converting from AIF to MP3. WAVs seem to sound fuzzy even atthe same sampling/bit rates.
