I just got a new.. well new used.. Eclipse CD8051 and it doesn't work. It's got a couple scratches on it but I thought it would be fine.
I read the manual and think I might need an ESN cd or something.
Eclipse head units that have the esn feature are automatically locked when their power source is disconnected. If the seller can't provide you with the cd that was used for security, I believe the unit is useless.
I can confirm that. the deck will be locked out if power has been disconnected and can only be opened if the very first cd put in the deck is inserted again. eclipse can not and will not help. in fact if you contact them about this issue with out proof that you were the original registered owner or proof that you purchase it from them it goes on to there dealer registry as a stolen deck and yes its used at all eclipse dealers
I used to have a CD8051 it was the HOTNESS!!!
My friend just bought one, and the KEY cd is the weirdest thing ive ever heard. Its like some punk bulgarian band or something. Its funny but its a really good idea on their part. Sorry though!! If you were gonna steal it you could just cut into the constant and ground and hook up a 12 volt battery.....
Ohh ya i forgot!!!
I knew It was someone on the board Dr. Frankenbarge i want my headunit back!
Ohh I'll be there! Ya betta hope da lesabre is da fast.
thats what i hate about eclipse head units. i think the cd key and lack of detachable faceplate is the most stupid thing. some dumbass breaks in and steals your hu and the only funny part will be when they try to get it to work. they arent going to look at the hu and say "oh wait, its an eclipse. i dont have the cd key. lemme move on to the next car". of course if you had a detachable faceplate then maybe they'd skip your car cuz they wouldnt spot a cool looking hu sitting in the car. i could even deal with the cd key thing if the faceplate was detachable. eclipse makes such great hu's and the faceplate thing is a total dealbreaker, at least for me.
