Mike and I were planning on hitting the boneyard near our house sometime this week.
You want us to look for one?
Posted By: ElKy Re: Need Help - 08/08/06 04:34 PM
i can get you one from NAPA for about $60.
the kicker is the core charge of $101.
but you get that back when you bring back the old caliper.

so i guess you determined that it was the caliper sticking and not the e-brake cable?

I should be at a j-yard this Saturday. I know they don't have any SVT's there, but there are other 'Tours.

Let me know.

Elky if you can that be great, but heres the kicker, I just went to my local post office and when i got home I smelled somthin burning, my rear brakes were on fire..so yea the car is outa commision untill this gets resolved..will the napa ones come with pads cause obv. my pads are shot, i dont care much for the rotor..

I neeeed the caliper ASAP!

elky give me a call if you wish..

Actually Bill is also sayin he has remanufactured ones too fo $50..I might as well just go with that plus he always next day his shipping..
Posted By: ElKy Re: Need Help - 08/08/06 05:37 PM
there you go thats cheaper, especially if there isnt a core charge.
unless specified the calipers do not come with pads, so you are looking at about another $30 for them.

but if bill can get you reman tomorrow for $50, then that is the way to go!

Bleeding isn't too hard. You do need a helper though, to pump the brake pedal.

Check this for a good How-to.

Good luck. Disc brakes aren't hard, heck I've worked on them on my 'Tour and my wife's van.

I think we might have a set of rear stock pads for either the Cougar or SVT sitting at home from when we changed over to aftermarket pads.

isn't that kind of a bad idea or is this just a temporary fix for you?

Just a side note... Make sure you dont have a bad brake hose. I've seen them collapse inside and act a a one-way valve and not let the fluid back out of the caliper. Happened on one of my former cars. Burned out two sets of bearings, brake pads and calipers before I figured it out.
Posted By: ElKy Re: Need Help - 08/08/06 08:57 PM
yeah, good point.
the easiest way to check for that is to crack open the bleed screw and then try to puch the piston back into the caliper.
if the piston moves in and fluid comes out od the bleeder, then you have a swollen hose...and not the kind that chicks dig.

I am headed to a j-yard tomorrow. If something from a non-SVT will help you let me know, and I'll see what they have.

I just don't know the differences between the rear brakes from the SVT to other models.

The rear rotors/pads are the same for SVT and non-SVT vehicles.

Haroon, I may have pads and rotors, I'll take a look after work today. I don't remember if I kept them before I moved or not. But, I'll check.

It just seems lately that ordering from Team Ford is more of a hassle.
The shipping promises are the worst part.

That and the wrong parts being shipped on about 50% of all the orders I've made. Don't even get me started about that.

Haroon knows what I'm talking about.
