well, spring is trying to knock on the door, winter is just being an arse to it

post ideas on what to do, what dates and we'll try to get all the new NE-CEGr's to come along also. I'm thinking middle of may, I get outa finals like after May 17th, but whatever works for u guys, I'll be there
The official spring meet typically has been an end of April event/bbq/modfest at Elky's and not May due to conflicts with national meets, namely Spring Zing and Carlisle.
Posted By: Cobra_dup1 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/15/05 06:45 PM
I'd like to have it towards the end of April because I don't get my SVT out until 4/15.
Posted By: skunk_dup1 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/15/05 07:47 PM
I'm with Mike my car doesn't come out of the garage until the middle end of april either.

Me and Michelle want to host a cookout this year around july/august at our house. I'll post details and interest soon. until then I'm up for anything. I just need to get away from the everyday bull**** and start hanging out and doing car stuff

i wanna come!! let me know where, and when, and what to bring....
Posted By: SVT25_dup1 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/15/05 09:24 PM
Just let me know when and where. Id like to actually meet some of you ceg'ers ive been talking to over the last month or so. Cookout sounds cool. Im really trying to get a new garage built over the spring/summer so maybe ill set up a garage warming party for all of you who feel like coming to southern Maine for a visit. Anything in August isnt good for me, due to my 15 day or so trip to Maui. LOL. Just thought id throw that in
Posted By: CSVT1214 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/15/05 09:43 PM
Late April, early May sounds good to me.

That will at least give me time to get all my mods done.
Posted By: ElKy Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/15/05 09:59 PM
this year the meet will be at the end of may, maybe thebeginning of april.
spring zing is in april, so squeezing 2 big events like that in one month will be hard.

i'll swing by and maybe steal one of your cars for an hour so i can remember what it was like....

anyone have any experience with kit cars? mike & kim?
Posted By: Cobra_dup1 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/17/05 11:51 AM
Well we don't have any experience yet, but we'll be looking into Cobra kits in the future. I've heard good things about ERA and Superperformance, but not-so-good things about Factory Five.
So Elky, you seem to enjoy hosting this Spring Meet/BBQ.
Are you willing to host again this year?
If so, what dates are good for you?
Just found out about another trip.

I can't do it until May 7th-8th. I don't know if that's waiting to late for you guys.

Posted By: ElKy Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/18/05 09:58 PM
i will definitly host it again this year.
not sure about dates yet.
will have to do some research on that.

Haroon has decided to patiently and politely take a nap while Elky plans out what dates are best for him to kindly offer up his house to us crazy m'fers.

take your time Elky, Haroon is young and needs his sleepies for growing big and stwong.

it is looking like the 30th of april is the weekend.
i cant take any other days off in april because of events.
we have Stevie B again.

and with SZ, i will be taking off the 21st of may, so i cant take off another weekend that month. (maybe)

Finals for me
Posted By: rouar Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/29/05 08:01 PM
Finals here too ... and I'm working on Saturday as always ...

hopefully if I can secure an internship this summer I'll have weekends free again for the first time since last August.
Posted By: BrApple_dup1 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/29/05 10:46 PM
I can make it that weekend

and if I remeber I came up during my finals this past year so ...
Posted By: CSVT1214 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 03/29/05 10:51 PM
I can't make it for sure. Car is dead.

Won't be ready till about 2 weeks after that. I hope.

looks like i might have to schedule it for the week after, if i can get it off from work
I have to work that Saturday as well....I found someone who was willing to give me some part-time hours in an office....very little bit helps....
Whatever works for you guys should hopefully work for me, though I am the type of person who doesn't make plans till last minute..... but, I'll keep this at the top of the list...

I know, but I've only gone to ONE CEG meet ever, and it sucks cause everytime some kinda meet comes around, my car is not available.

I'm driving a 02 Mitsubishi Galant right now and I really don't wanna be driving it. I want my car back!!!

No no no, say you can't so that we'll reschedule!

I'd love to make it a different weekend, but if that doesn't work for others (esp. Elky!), then I'll meet up another time.
weekend of April 30th, as well as May 7th is good for us.

I dont care when it is. Just let me know. Rather not do it in May though. Would be nice to spread stuff out a little. If we do it in May its kinda creeping in on SZ, for those of us who are going that is.

Damn. I can't do the 30th have family gathering for my wifes grandfathers 80th birthday. I gotta make it to something sooner or later . Well maybe I can pull of my summer cookout .

is that set in stone or is the 30th still the date until you get the time off the weekend of the 7th?

i think that it will be the 7th.
i will get it off work if it kills me.
i take one night off a month, if that.
so two in one month might not be so bad.

Hey y'all,

Of course, majority rules, as well as the schedule of the organizers, but I vote for the weekend of the 30th. I'm in St. Louis on May 7th (business-related... trust me, there's not much to do in St. Louis besides riverboat gambling). I missed the shindig in the White Mountains in October and really am looking for a good opportunity to meet y'all.

Motorcraft. OEM parts are the best most of the time and I've found that Motorcraft is very good.

hey guys, as you may know, a few months ago I switched to a 2005 focus, but i would like to come to this meet. The only catch is, I would come in my friend pat's 04 STi... Is that cool with everyone?
all are always welcome, regardless of the ride.

Elky, how are we going to do parking at your place for this event?

I was thinking the same thing. Its not going to be quite the same as the nice patch of pavement in the rear to work on the cars.

Also, will we be able to wash our cars? I know you're a home owner now, so water is one of the bills you'll be paying. Let us know.

I am assuming we should start some kind of garage waiting list. This seems to be turning out into a pretty big mod meet. I claim the garage first! I remember somebody wanting their DMD done at the last meet, so they get second.
Posted By: Nick98CSVT Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 04/14/05 03:45 PM
I can try to come but its kinda tough to get someone to work a saturday night for me. If I do come up I need a few things done like my Elky mesh that ive had for a long time now, and my DMD that ive also had for a while.

btw guys, I travel through the lowell connector everyday, the highway people tore it up for new pavment so at the moment its all groved pavement..sucks driving over it

Is the meet def the weekend of 7 May? I'll put in for the time now. I may be on call again, so Mike will it be cool for me to use your internet access, if I get called? I may, and thats a HUGE maybe, have the SVT with me. I'll bring the ATI subframe if I do, so we can all gawk and install it, time permitting.

No, actually it was me. I have my WP and DMD that needs tobe installed. But I'm not tryin to push anyone outta the way or anything. Plus I wanna do my UIM/LIM within the next couple of months as well as a full tune-up. I am not to worried about gettin this done at the meet so you don't have to count on me taking up garage time , but if it's avail. I'm all for it.

it is definitly the 7th.

the lowell connector does suck right now, but oh well.
as for parking...we will have to do what we can.
i just hope it is dry that week.

washing cars can be done, but will have to be done inthe front driveway and might make life difficult, parking-wise

If I bring supplies and tools, would people mind showing a newbie to Auto repair/maintenance how to change oil, coolant, transaxle fluids? I also need a wheel bearing replaced, how hard is that? Front end alignment? (I've had one bearing replaced before- my car has made a loud sound when turning left for a while now).

I am coaching my son's soccer team, so I couldn't be there until around 11:30-noon.

Let me know if that might be a possibility and what to bring. If not, it's not a problem. I thought it might be a good opportunity to meet some people and learn some stuff.

I work every Saturday but if it goes long enough maybe I'd go. Who knows.

Elky meets have longevity, IIRC...

Bring a sleeping bag and a bottle of water.
correct, like Elky said, these meets usually carry over into Sunday, right up until bedtime sometimes.

Elkster, you planning on buying a bunch of meat again this year and put out the donations box?

...the bearing might be a little to labor intensive for this type of meet..but who knows..if you've been driving on it for awhile you might want to check out that the hub/spindle isnt/hasnt been "bored"out..even just the slightest could cost you a new bearing,quickly..i found out the hard way just last month

well I'm bringing a new srpentine belt and who ever wants to put it in is more then welcome to cause I have noo idea how to and from what I hear, its a PITA, but you guys are awesome and I'm sure will figure it out
fluid changes are easy
you'd need to bring all the proper replacement fluids & filter, as well as the containers to both catch the old fluid and contain them for transporting to the proper disposal facilities.

here's the how to for changing the tranny fluid:

and the coolant change how to:

goonz, the serp belt is pretty easy, just make sure you bring the breaker tool, or maybe elky has one,if not you can rent one at autozone.
Posted By: ElKy Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 04/16/05 01:38 PM
fun fun fun!!!

as kim said you can do flid changes here as long as you take your old fluids with you and if you have a drain bucket or something to catch it in bring that too.
and please, no messes in teh garage...the hearse already made a big one.

the bearing might be a little difficult to do at the meet, maybe it could be attempted on sunday.

as for food, i found another place to get steak tips, these ones melt in your mouth.

like i said before i will be starting another thread soon for people to list who is coming and whether or not they are bring ing anything.

I couldn't do Sunday. But having some help learning the fluid changes would be cool. I've seen the "How-to"'s but am in the learning process still, and am a little nervous about messing up my daily driver. I could some experience to walk me through my first time on some of these things.

Maybe plugs and wires too? I know, Autolite APP764.

Is that OK? I don't want to overstep my bounds or ask too much.

You'll post an address sometime, I assume? Thanks in advance !

We're a real helpful group (when motivated and sober! ), so I'm sure we'll be able to give you a hand, at least start you in the right direction.

Just tell us what fluids you plan on changing, and be sure to bring the appropriate containers for removing the old fluids. I can bring my fluid pump if anyone is interested in changing the MTX fluid.

Please do. If I can make it (I will confirm ASAP) I would like to change my MTX fluid. Redline MTX is the best replacement, right? IIRC I would need 3 quarts, right?

I would also like to do a coolant change. Any fluid brand/ type suggestions here? 1 gallon, right?
Oil and filter as well. 6 quarts, I know that much. lol
Plugs and wires maybe too? APP764 x 6.

Thanks in advance. I do appreciate it. I look forward to meeting some people from CEG.
if you can't find Redline at a local retailer, you can order it through Summit, and they deliver pretty quickly.
I had to do that for my tranny change this past summer.

Are you looking to just change the fluid, or do a full flush? Flushes can become a little more involved, and require more fluid. I think during my last flush, I had over 10 gallons of water flushed through before I was done. Since I changed to Dexcool, I wanted to be sure I got all of the old fluid out (the different coolant types shouldn't be mixed).

You may want to look at buying a flush kit. Prestone makes one, and they aren't that expensive.

In terms of replacement coolant, search around here and decide what makes the most sense for you. Also, I'd recommend stopping at Walmart or something and picking up some distilled water. This is better for your cooling system then tap water.

Ill definatly be there, but really dont plan on doing any mods or fluid changes. Maybe a wash, but thats about it.

Well I might make it to the meet after all.

Since you guys said it will last a long time, I might drive up after work.

The Tour will still be dead, but I could maybe bring the new 5.0 GT Convertible we should be picking up this week.

yes bring the pump...i havent changed my fluid..cars going on 98k..thats a pretty hard 98k too ...so three quarts is right? sounds good...just got done painting my sideskirts...not to shabby for a first timer...now to tackle the front before sz...

I was looking to do a coolant flush, but should probably wait. I'd rather make a mess at my own house. I will look into a flush kit, good idea. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction as the "How-to" instructions use some terms I'm not familiar with.

I would need some help with my MTX fluid change. 3 quarts of Redline MTL fluid, right? No additives/ friction modifiers, etc., right?

Maybe someone could walk me through a fuel filter?
And/ or maybe a plug change?

Correct, with Redline you do not need any additional additives. Also, changing the fluid on the MTX is actually easier than changing the oil. Honestly! Once you've done it once, its a breeze!

Yeah, changing the fuel filter is another cake walk. Be sure to have something to catch the gas that will leak out. Then let Elky burn his eyebrows off!

Nope, but we will be doing my headers. If anybody wants to get more adventurous I have the replacement water pump to block hose that you guys said was worn out. I also have an AC leak that could be fixed. I think I created an AC leak when I istalled my OMP front strut tower brace.

i think the rotors are in very good shape.

you'll want to take the paint and dust off the other caliper before installing, tho. get ready to get dirty.

It's easy. Just disconnect the motor mounts and take out the old engine. How hard can it be?

Damn, it was worth a shot.

Our swap is not going to be as easy as just swapping 2 totally built engines.

The 2.5 parts are being built over a 3L shortblock, if I understand it correctly.

So the 2.5 needs to be pulled out, disassembled, build up the 3L with 2.5 parts and then install the complete engine.

It all sounds so simple. Every once in a while I get this urge to attempt a big project like a 3l hybrid. I tell myself, "it's easy Randy, just put your parts on a 3l block and put it in the car." I get excited....I pop the hood....then I get scared again.

haha lmao....i'm glad i'm not the only one with the SAME EXACT feelings...i always tell myself, how hard could it be...then i try to do something generic like...change the rear o2 and it takes me 2 hours,or the altenator which without powertools took me 9

yea..mine is getting built up the the 3L short block as well, shawn at arizona dyno chip recommended me getting PNP heads. Those cost around $1200 (that I dont have) and would also pretty much complete the build up process by 80% in a very short time. I'm just goin with the regular 3L short block install. Tony we gotta pick up "3.0L" badges now to slap on the back of the car

motor swaps are fun!!!
i have done 2 swaps in teh past 2 weeks.
did a chevy 350 in a 1997 3/4 ton truck in 3 days
then i did a 2.5 suby swap in a legacy in just under 2 days.

but i almost got beat today by a 2003 Mecredes CLK 500 AMG.
it was a simple 'please instal these lowering springs'
sure thing....4 hours later they were finaly done!!
fuggers.

So all jokes aside, do you guys really think it is possible to do it?

I still haven't figured out who is installing my engine but I need to figure it out ASAP because the engine is expected to be done and shipping out from Buckshot this weekend.

This would be ideal for me. A group of CEGers teaming up to do an engine swap.

Much rather do that then a garage with very little knowledge of our cars doing it.

I would think if you are mechinacally inclined and have done all the research you could do it. I think haveing the Ford manuals would be nessesary also. The hardest thing I see is actually having the right equipment to build the engines and get them in and out. Do you drop the sub fram or pull it from the top. Both have there own challenges. I have gathered what I thought to be improtant infromation on 3 liter builds I would be happy to send it to who ever wants it. I have it in two word documents both from different threads from some time ago.

the Ford shop manual is most likely going to tell you to drop the sub frame, of course that is easy with a lift but how has one of those handy?
Posted By: ElKy Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet - 04/21/05 01:49 AM
if i had a lift, this would be very do-able.
yes i know people have done it without a lift, but is has taken them a while.
also i dont have a cherry picker either.

this might be a possibilty, but the next thing needed is time.
i dont even have time to do the front end in my hearse or fix the rot on my truck, nevermind do an ngine swap on my spare time.

but agin...it is possible

So what is the verdict on this meet? Will there be an engine swap going on?

I know that Goonz SVT and I had expressed an interest in doing an MTX fluid change, and Zgendron said he would bring his fluid pump. But that is the only concrete plans I heard of.

Could someone walk me through a plugs and wires change? Or just point me in the right direction? I think I could do the coolant flush on my own (and do it at home since it will be messy) but I would need a few pointers. I've seen the "How-to" but need a few clarifications/ parts pointed out...

Does that sound Ok? I don't want to overstep my bounds.
check the faq for instructions on the plug and wire changes
Mike and I will do our best to give a hand on whatever project people need help with - within reason.
No guarantees are ever made on all projects getting finished at these meets, but we all do our best as a group to all chip in where we can.

The biggy for this meet are Randy's headers - pretty much the prime priority, especially since it's been put off for so long, for various reasons that couldn't be helped.

In between that and actually just chilling/having fun, we'll all do our best to tackle other projects.

Posted By: CSVT1214 Re: 2005 Official Spring NE-CEG Meet Agenda - 04/25/05 04:27 PM
Well as of today, I found out my engine swap will begin here that same day. So I will most likely be at home, helping with the swap instead of going to the meet. I want to come but I don't want to leave my friend to swap the engine 100% by himself.

If I do decide to come, I'll bring the new 5.0.
