OK, I think we have kept everyone in the dark long enough....

Friday May 3 - Lane Automotive will be once again hosting the welcoming day, and they will also be providing free food & drinks for the Spring Zing participants. There will also be a Spring Zing Supersale and some other "surprises" for your enjoyment.
Friday evening after departing from Lane Automotive we will be cruising up to US 131 Dragway in Martin, MI for some 1/4 runs. Cost TBA.

Saturday May 4 - Daytime activities are still in the planning stages.
Saturday evening will be the Banquet (Location & guest speakers TBA)

Sunday May 5 - The 2nd Annual Spring Zing Cup (SCCA Auto X)

We are most likely going top be holding SZ2002 in the same location as last year, but we will be booking blocks of rooms at both Clarion and Holiday Inn Hotels so everyone will be able to stay together. (both hotels share the same parking lot)

I was hoping to pick up a junk one from work, but it doesn't look like that is likely.
Posted By: xchang Re: Spring Zing '02 - 11/09/01 02:03 PM
I got one sitting in my garage that you can have. I think it is the other seat that Chris got for me. You can have it. It's a old Van seat, but it works... PLus, Laura is getting sick of looking at it... laugh

Posted By: Huntervf Re: Spring Zing '02 - 11/11/01 11:32 PM
Uh...I think he meant President as in Pres. of the US. I can see it now, Chinese addressing Congress...

"ooohhhh--Chineseman see many stuffy old Americans. Lemmie take yo piccha laugh

And hey, building that GT3 seat was no big deal...just a little bit of wood, some caster wheels and a seat. The hardest part was finding the right seating position for the most realism/comfort. And as Chang said he has a van seat that I got from work, and I can probably dig up something else if you want. Or hey, maybe even buy a cheap racing seat. Those aren't too expensive, are they?

I never thought about building these to sell, but hey I've got the tools & at least SOME talent. If there's enough interest I suppose I could build a few more. I'm still tweaking mine though; I wouldn't want to make more until I had the prototype fine tuned.

My controller/ebrake setup is still in the works, and I'm also thinking of making a two seat version for two player battles cool And if someone ever makes a good rally game for PS2 you could go with a co-driver. Personally, I'd take the time to go over the courses & make rally notes just so I could have a legitimate co-driver insted of the computer. It'd be time consuming, but man what fun!

Ok, maybe I'm getting a little TOO into this now....NAHHHHH laugh

President Chineseman say: "Dec 15th will be Sweet and Sour Pork Day... because I said so." laugh
Posted By: Rara Re: Spring Zing '02 - 11/13/01 02:05 AM
lmao @ Chineseman!

Chris, I'm trying to get a hold of a cast off Cobra or race seat from work (though it isn't likely frown ) I know the base and all isn't tough at all, I just wanna find a really good seat for it. oh and fwiw, I'm ont in a big hurry anyway, Cara won't let me buy a PS2 until after Christmas frown
Posted By: xchang Re: Spring Zing '02 - 11/13/01 01:51 PM
I think that means your getting one for Christmas... I started to pick up hints when Laura used to say that too...
Like the Dell commercial: "Dude, your getting a PS2..."

Hey guys, here a voice from the distant past just wanting to say that I'm glad to see that Spring Zing lives on!

Best of luck with the event, and I expect to see it in Sport Compact Car next year...

MIKE!!! Whats happenin man! Long time no see. Guys for anyone who doesn't know Mike was the orginal planner of events for the first Spring Zing. Man I remember the days. Really hope to make it up there this time around as things are on a forward upwards move. Keep in touch Mr. McCue!

Gee, it's nice to be remembered! wink

I'm just glad to see that SZ is still healthy and thriving. To this day I tell people with Contours about the CEG, and it's cool to me that the group has an event that they can be so proud of.

Rebecca (my wife) is starting to show some interest in a Focus SVT when they become available, so who knows? I may be back in the SVT fold by Spring Zing. (But no, I'm not giving up my Impreza!) laugh
Posted By: todras Re: Spring Zing '02 - 12/13/01 03:59 PM
Hey Mike! You sold the SVT for a BMW now you have a 2.5RS?

Just a question, do all you guys going to this bring your wife/girlfriend? I know for a fact my fiance would absolutely hate 3 days of cars, but I of course would love it. I wanna go either way, do we book hotels ourselves, or thru ceg?

Lastly, anyone have an estimation of total cost including hotel etc so I know how much money I have to hide from the women? laugh

Cost, that would be a question to WorldTour.

Here is a first for this year. My fiance said she was willing to setup stuff for the female companions that show up to the event that do not want to do all the car stuff. Haven't finalized anything yet, but she said she would be more than willing to do that... laugh

I attended last year with CobraR and loved it! I think there was a good amount of guys who brought their girls and they all seemed to have a good time.

Keep mine out of my hair for at least three days... Man am I gonna be busy... Well, a videographer never sleeps... laugh

Is there pre-registration for the track day? How are you going to do it, are you going to have us go out in a pack of 10 or 15 at a time, or is it open track all time? BTW, how hard is the course on tires? I mean, will I come in with new tires and come out with bald tires? laugh

Please forgive my complete ignorance here, but what exactly is an open track event? Also, where is "the same location as last year"? And lastly, is there any new info on this yet? Thanks.
Posted By: Huntervf Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/22/02 03:10 PM
The location is Kalamazoo Michigan, about 4 hours south of you in Traverse City. Open track event is just that...GingerMan raceway in South Haven will be open to anyone who wants to run laps. This as opposed to a closed track event where usually one group rents the track for just themselves. It's nice to have the track to yourself but you'll usually pay at least $100 to get some laps. With the open track we're attending costs will only be $50, and while I'm sure there will be other cars on track with us it's usually a small number, and heck if a bunch of Contours & SHO's are there we may just intimidate the others away smile

Back on the cost topic.

I've convinced the g/f that it's a good idea to go there. It's a good 15 hour drive for us. I'm all over the idea but I need to figure out how much the whole adventure is gonna cost me. Here's what I need:

SZ2002 Registration Fees: ??$$
Open Track event: 50$
Hotel Room: ??$$ / per night

Adding meals for two, booze for two, gas for the ride... Am I missing anything?

Am I gonna be the first Canadian from Quebec to ever attend SZ?? Yippee! Looking forward to meeting with you guys!
Posted By: frenchblueC2 Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/24/02 05:37 PM
Don't forget gas!

I think we filled up a good 2-3 times last year coming from NH.

and if you want to get down and nitpick at pennies, you'll need travel snacks/drinks money to consider too.
Posted By: Slim Shady Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/24/02 09:50 PM
Well the hotel IIRC was about $65.00 a night and i can't remember how much registartion was, For us NYC guys it will take about 11-12 hrs, But it was WORTH IT.

FYI: There was a guy from canada there last year but i can't remember his name or where he was from.

P.S. Hey mark any news
Posted By: NorMich99SE Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/25/02 04:42 AM
Thanks for the answer about open track....so it's not a competitive thing, just a bunch of folk out driving their cars like they should be...sweet, now i need to get myself a helmet... smile (I could use my dad's full face snowmobile helmet couldn't I?) I know someone else already asked, but I'll ask again, what is the track like, how hard will it be on my tires and such? I can't afford to go shredding too much rubber, I'm also curious about registration costs. This sound sweet, I hope I can make it.......
Posted By: Ry Ry Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/26/02 09:20 PM
I'm a newbie to the track thing too, but i'm totally stoked about it. I'll probably just come down for the day and turn a few laps on the track. Is the track like an autocross track or just a big oval track?
Posted By: spanky Re: Spring Zing '02 - 01/27/02 05:33 AM
im there now, i got my car fixed and runnin good so i wanna be a showoff lol
