Is there a difference between SVT brakes and regualr Contour brakes? I am getting a brake job on my SVT and I want SVT components if they are differnet.
yes, they are different. Youll have to swap everything.
If both of you were to check the sticky notes at the top of this forum, you would find out what it would take to install SVT brakes on a non SVT.

The rear brakes are the same as the other rear disc contours.

The fronts can be converted by using the front brake caliper brackets from a late SVT or from a 99 and newer Cougar that had the big brakes (most with the V6 did). That will space your calipers out enough to use the larger SVT front rotors. This also allows you to use the same calipers and pads as before.

The factory 15" wheels will fit over the larger brakes, but the spare will not.
ALSO find out WHICH svt front brakes you have, the pads' shapes changed over time, and that WILL affect which pads to get as correct replacements to fit on your svt. Maybe the BAT site has diagrams of different pad shapes/sizes, check the brake forum FAQ stickies above about "Type A" and "Type B" on this exact topic, and there are a handful of brake gurus here for follow up Qs after you do this.
the bat catalogue does infact have a handy diagram.
Shocker,
The FAQ states everything that is stated here!
