Hey guys, The other day when i pulled up on my e-brake i heard a crack and now the e-brake is loose as hell (no tension when i pull and it dosent require that i push the button in for anything. Did i just snap a cable or what?
Yep, sounds like you snapped a cable. Search to find out how to fix it.
do i have to take off the whole center console to replace this? Or can i just take off the E-brake boot. God, i hate to do this cause unbolting my exhaust for the first time since the factory did it is gonna be a BIG pain.
I have replaced 2 brake handles. You have to take off the center console. I think the exhaust has to be dropped too. It was so long ago I can't remember put I think the exhaust is in the way of getting to the end of the cable on the handle assembly.
Taking off my Center Console is a [censored] x100 cause i have O/D on my car and getting the gear selector off without cutting the wires is impossible. Friggen stupid design.
Rather that starting another thread....
Anyone know how to adjust the tension on the e-brake? I thought there would just be a screw under the console but there isn't. Anyone know how to conquer this? I'd love to use my e-brake again...
holy crap you gotta take the exhaust off to replace the cable, damn
its not that hard, Just a pain in the ass. kinda like a days work plus you get to hear the V8 Contour
From Terry...
In 9 out of 10 cases if the rear e brake cable are
seized and a good yank given to the lever it will
1)break or damage the short cable that is part of the
e brake lever assy or 2)damage the self adjust
quadrant in the e brake lever.Even if the rear cables
are changed the lever self adjust has to be reset to
give slack on the short cable at the leaver or it's a
PIA to fit the rear cables.Take alook at the CD,you
will see a small 'latch' that needs to be depressed on
the lever near the self adjust quadrant to 'unlock'
the self adjust...Just an FYI..TH
i need to replace the cables anyways, this is going to be a learning experiance, if i have any problems ill drop y here.
i did the same thing recently, except the parking brake still works...a little. It's just if i pull up too far it will pop again and the handle will go straight up and down. I suppose it's something int he console that's broken.
Before that happened, the e-brake itself was not enough to stop the car from rolling on a steep hill.
How should i jack the car up in the front if the E-Brake dosent work?? Where should i jack the car up in the front (i have 1 jack and 2 jack stands)
Its a little hard to work on the Heatshield without jacking up the front end of the car.
I tihnk the answer you're looking for is: leave the car in gear and put bricks under the wheels so the car doesn't rool back and make you go squish.
Is it unsafe to jack up the front of the car while the back is on jackstands?
My recommendation is from a only-has-two-jackstands point of view
Just do what makes sense to you
