I was wondering if it is possible to tighten the front strut spring hats without removing the whole assembly from the car.

I installed some H&R's about a week ago. The other day when I was changing the oil and had the front wheels off the ground I checked to make sure if everything was tight. I noticed that I could rotate(with a fair amount of muscle)the springs. I think this is where the loud clunking noise I am hearing occasionaly is coming from.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any tips in advance.

The springs are indexed between the lower and the upper spring perches. If you can rotate the springs without turning wheel knuckle, you probably do not have it positioned correctly. I remember when I installed my H&R's a month ago that with top hat installed, but out of car, I could not rotate the springs.

You can correct this without taking it out of car. With car jack up and both front wheels off the ground, loosen the strut top retainer, retainer nut and strut top hat nut, all from top of the strut tower. Your strut assembly will drop enough for you to rotate the spring/spring top perch to let you align up and index it correctly. Then bolt it up in reverse order and you are good to go.

They are positioned correctly against the "stops" on each perch. I can rotate them away from the "stops" so all I know is that it is too loose.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot to see if this fixes the problem.

air ratchet on the nut... it'll tighten it.
