I'm running the 2.5" universal. I'm using the bigger one so I can optimize the y-pipe later and also be able to easily upgrade to a 2.5" exhaust system.

With the SVT we cut the converter ends at an angle to offset the cat like the factory one is and welded the old flange on the front and kept the remaining pipe after the cat that bolts to the rest of the exhaust system. The pipe is 2.25" though so we got a SS 2.5"-2.25" reducer cone from autozone and welded it to the back of the cat. It's a bit tricky getting everything lined up but it fits nice.

There seems to be a bit more grun through the midrange and a little top end. Unless you have access to such tools and can do it yourself I wouldnt recommend it for the slight performance increase vs. the cost of a shop spending a couple of hours doing it. I'd just get a cat back on the car and keep the stock cat. The only reason we did this is because mine got clogged. Hope this helps.

thanks i apricate your response....

im gettinga custom 3" exsust any way and my converters all rusted out any way so i figured what the heck why not just get a magnaflow and put that on insted of a crappy oem ford 1. im not looking for tons of resuslts from it. just something thats slightly beter then stokc with a little bit louder/better sound then stock.

You sound like you have a lot of aspirations for the car being as your only 15 (guessing by your sig) it'll intresting to see if you ever do anything.

Fun to brag that you are 15 with an SVT??

I know one thing you can't brag about... driving alone in the SVT legally!

Way to crush the kids dreams.

Be nice. At 15 years old, you all know you would be jumping around like a little fairy to have a SVT.

It's an awesome first car and at that age, I'd brag too.

It was just a harmless question. I got my svt at 17. Paid for in full by 20.

My98svtturbo,I KNOW you will take very good care of the car, drive safe and learn how the car react before going crazy with it, wouldn't want your dream to be all smashed up.

I would have liked to have this car at 15. It's just a BIT cooler than the 1974 Ford LTD Stationwagon (with woodgrain sides) that I learned to drive on.

That's good you worked for it yourself. I payed for my last 3 cars I owned totally on my own starting at 15 years old also. It's a much better feeling in the end when you can say you worked for it and not someone else.

Yes, much better feeling. And when someone works hard for somthing they generaly take much better care of it.

I'm guessing he didn't know that he can change his screen name down the road? I personally don't like to brag about anything I don't have yet.

To answer your question, I think a 3" exhaust will be overkill until you actually do get the turbo kit.

Yes, they came in handy when my wife and I were dating.

it does feel good to have worked hard and get something good. i dont care if some of you dont belive me or not about the turbo. im deffinly going to get it. I acomplished goal number 1 of buying the SVT in Cash. now, goal number 2 is to save up enough $$$ for the turbo. im taking this step by step. I dont want to rush anything, i want to be able to enjoy moding my car peice by peice one at a time and im determined to do that. Alex

Kudos to you and your first car, nice to see some kids still like to buy V6's. :P Enjoy the expendable income and have fun with it. And don't forget, that's a piece of history you have in your parking spot, take care of her, lord knows we've lost too many.

If your serious about getting a turbo then I would highly suggest reading the Turbo section from start to finish, I'd say by the time your done you'll know everything there is to know about putting a turbo to the duratec and who to talk to there afterwards.

And..

Welcome to the board and don't forget to take the criticism on here with a big grain of salt.
