As promised after the [censored] experience at the IN track i went tonight:

First run, no burnout moderate launch. I spun the tires a fair amount and it kept the revs high ehough to sustaine acceleration and a great 1-2 shift.

R/T .360
60â?? 2.308
330 6.317
1/8 9.680
MPH 73.49
1000 12.554
1/4 14.999
MPH 91.88

Second run, short burnout higher RPM launch, Iâ??m finding my tourque-defician 2.5 to be a dog on high launches contrary to what I was hoping for. Got GOBS of traction off the line with a hard launch but once the car lurched forward initially didnâ??t have enough torque to keep the pull goingâ?¦...

R/T .273
60â?? 2.201
330 6.336
1/8 9.729
MPH 72.98
1000 12.621
1/4 15.081
MPH 91.25

Third run, more aggressive launch than the second, and I though I had the same issue as the second, but after reviewing the slip now, it seem I might have made a mistake somewhere between 330 and the 1/8th perhaps just a short tap on the rev-limiterâ?¦.

R/T .449
60â?? 2.148
330 6.266
1/8 9.686
MPH 72.26
1000 12.602
1/4 15.081
MPH 90.49

Sweet.. maybe I'll gain a 1/2 second too

How did you 60' and all that compare?

Nice 60' times. I'm jealous.

That's crazy.. 60's is about the same but the mph and times are way off...

Y2k did say the track ran uphill...

DURKS 95: dude if I pick up 3 mph and .5s I would be in the 12's or close at like 102 mph
DURKS 95: and I'm stuck in washington
MapOfTaziFoSho: PWNED!

I am gonna go to my local track and get some new times.

God that track was BULLDOOKIE!

Nice stuff josh..

After seeing how torque-lacking the 2.5 is on a decent launch with good grip, i'm almost 100% on going 3L this winter....
Posted By: Frosty Re: NEW SVT TIMES!!! - 05/24/06 04:10 PM
Congrats Josh. Yay, we're pulling the motor again?? I can't wait!! J/k you know i'd help. Maybe my motor will just stay in this winter then....I've got other stuff to do...the list gets bigger by the day

She's not stock, or did you mean with the 2.5?

Either way, thanks.
Posted By: warmonger_dup1 Re: NEW SVT TIMES!!! - 05/24/06 08:29 PM
Yeah, stock with a 2.5L rather than a 3L. I'm sure very few will pull 14's completely stock.

I'm still holding out for better, i think the car can easily pull 14.7x-14.8x just need more practice. I've been to the track 5 times in my life now.....

HAHAHAHA I KNEW it! I need to get to the track ASAP.

Sweet times Josh. I knew you'd hit 14s!

So does anyone have any input on mods that could help even more? So far i've got-

Performance:

-KKM maf adapter
-K&N RU-3530
-Optimized TB
-Short shifter
-Solid 94A polyurethane front and rear roll resistors
-MSDS Headers with solder-in MIL eliminators
-Optimized y-pipe
-2.5" mandrel-bent Magnaflow y-pipe back exhaust
-Ford 9mm wires
-Mobil 1 oil and filter
-Upper/lower intake system re-build

Drivetraine:

-HMS built trans
-Quaife LSD
-Updated forks and syncros
-Tower mod to elminiate "sheared bolt" issue
-RP Syncromax fluid
-Spec 1 clutch

I'm thinking a test pipe for the main cat, and an intake pipe to replace the stock accordian tube. Anything else i'm not thinking of?

Just to brainstorm, Josh: which front tires at what pressure, how sticky are they, which wheels, which chip/tuning and rev limit settings (stock?)? Can you afford to get an xcal2 and get a custom dyno tune to run on race gas? If you use slightly undersized front tires, you're raising your effective gear ratio just a hair, which raises the torque to the ground a little bit, IF you have enough traction to use it, and you'll be into 4th gear sooner near the end of a run (counterpoint is 3L/turbo guys going to the Zetec final ratio, but they have torque to spare). Do you have a heatshield? I see you already mentioned a test pipe (does your present cat pinch down to 2.25" anywhere?) and the stock accordion tube (maybe the stock accordion tube, BAT pipe and CTA pipe are all different inside diameters). Is there any point to overinflating your rear tires and putting the rear struts (if you have adjustables) on full hard? Any way to cut 60 lbs? And I've never researched, but are 3L valves in 2.5L heads to use on a 2.5L too expensive for too little difference or don't fit or don't work?

Tires are 215/45/17 Nankangs that came with the 17â? x 7â? REVs Iâ??m running. Theyâ??re OK tires but donâ??t offer the best of grip, no better than my firestone 205/55/15 I ran last time. The wheels are just as light as my 15â? alloys.

Stock PCM, and Iâ??m not planning on any kind of tune until next year, Iâ??ld like to see how far stock can get me before I start playing. I may hold off on the 3L for one more year and see what I can get this 2.5 to do...

I donâ??t have the traction to use it.....yet

Working on it

Nope. 2.5 all the way from the PRT optimized y-pipe back to a 2.5 to 2 x 2 Y at the rear.

Iâ??m going to be making an intake pipe when I do my heat shield and hood modifications.

Struts are on full hard with the GCs, rear weight transfer is at a minimum

I could have run 3 or 4 fewer gallons of gas, removed the spare and jack and taken out the rest of the seats.....but it was a last minute decision to go, so it didnâ??t happen.

Too expensive, I wonâ??t get into heavy head work like that and not go oval 3L. Iâ??m actually considering doing some light port work on the heads this winter as the 2.5 may come out again for some more â??detailingâ? anyway, got a title to defend at SZ07 .

What Iâ??m looking for are simple things I can do to lower ETâ??s.....such as the test pipe, weight reduction, intake pipe, and heat shield.....just donâ??t know if thereâ??s anything else I can do that Iâ??m not thinking of.

Hey, if you get anywhere on these little mods, or if you get some more input of other ideas, make sure we hear about it. I'm in about the same boat as you, looking for a tenth here and a half tenth there off the car's ET, but you're much farther along than I am on doing a launch that gets OK 60' times and still avoids bog/keeps the secondaries open.

I'm considering getting something stickier in a 225 width, maybe even with 15" wheels, for the fronts. Picking between sit and spin vs. grip and bog sucks. I'm hoping for some spin and some grip instead.

And I hope to mail you some $$ over the next 2 business days for a front roll resistor. My present combo is a front ES insert and your 94A rear, and I still get a tiny bit of hop, so doing your full 94A on both roll resistors should be better for launches.
