I'm doing a bit of exhaust work on the SVT & I'm having trouble deciding on which tips to go with . I really like the look of the double-walled stainless steel tip , but I'm certainly open to the idea of checking out any/all tips you guy's have to show off . I'm trying to decide weather to go with the 15º angle cut one or the straight cut one . I'm also sort-of undecided weather to go with a 4" tip or a 3.5" tip (for ease of cleaning ) .
I'm going with oval-shaped stainless Magnaflow mufflers , which apparently won't fit under the car without modification to the tow hooks when bought as a combo (as in the 14851 - which is what I was originally after) . I'm not cutting my car up in any way , shape or form , so a seperate muffler & tip is what I'm doing (with a short extension between) .

So - Show me your aftermarket exhaust tips . Welcoming all show-offs !!

id say go with the tips in the first picture provided, the angle would flow with the lines of the rear bumper, overall adding a really nice touch. Oh, and get a 3.5 inch tip, 4 inches is just plain ginormious
Posted By: R_G Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/20/05 07:24 PM
15 degree cut looks better IMHO

I dont have them on my tour. But on my Stang I have the angle cut. I think it looks the best.

i would say, dont go with tips. i would find a universal muffler with the 3 1/2 inch angle cut tips, and not double walled. i would go with the single wall. but that is just my opiion. thats what i have, and i think that it looks really good. especially if you have an svt, cause it fits really good into the muffler cutouts in the bumper. sorry i dont have any pics of it.

Dont mind the dirt

Straight cut, though connected to magnaflow race mufflers.

These are not on a SVT but what I had put on my 96 SE.

Posted By: Trapps_dup1 Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/21/05 04:11 AM
I forgot about the trappless rotated angle cut experiment...

The idea was to follow the contour of the valance as it begins to wrap forwards - to keep the plane of the tip opening on the same plane as the valance opening. It looked good, just missed the trapps too much and switched back after a few months.

Google the name for a pic of it, the exhaust comes through vent like discs. You can add or subtract discs for loudness. It sounds weird, but when you see a pic it will make sense.

They're the SuperTrapps mufflers that Mark (Trapps) showed in his first reply . A pretty cool setup .

Trapps - I like that setup too . Nice , heavy-rolled tips . Who made 'em ? 3½" tips ?

Rawburt - nice look to yours too . What tips ?

Tourige - Owen's running a custom magnaflow setup with 3½" dual-wall , straight-cut (magnaflow) tips .

Low end really only effects sound. High end and you can certainly tell the difference - more discs, more power. I used to run 12 a side.

Sounds like this...

Anyone that has dual-walled tips have any close-up shots of 'em ?? Maybe from straight-on or slightly off center of 'em ?
The pics on the Magnaflow site are pretty lame-o & small . I'm curious to see the thickness & taper from inside to outside diameter .
Right now , I'm still leaning towards the dual-walled (not 100% sure straight or taper yet) , and most likely in a 3½" size .

Thanks a million to the people who posted pics so far ! This thread should also help people searching for this info in the future . Good pics/info , all in one spot .

Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/24/05 08:47 PM
Can I ask another favor ?

Can one (or more ) of you guys running the Magnaflows take a couple "under car" shots ?? I'm interested in seeing where the mufflers fall in relation to the tow hooks & stuff as well as how it falls at the other end of the muffler & how hard the bend is where it attatches to the exhaust (i.e. how much room do I have to make the bend into the muffler without it hitting the suspension . I'm concerned about getting those 14" long mufflers under there , holding them back behind the tow hooks . I could go with the shorter 11" mufflers in the 4x9's , but I'm concerned that it'll be too loud/droney & every time the wife & I drive the car (like to my dad's in GA - 11+ hrs) , she'll complain non-stop . I don't want that !

GoldenTour - Are your Mag's the 11" long ones ?

To the guys running the 14851's , how much of the tow hook had to be removed ?? How far past the hook does the muffler hang (side-to side) ? 1" , 2" ??

I just want to have all my ducks in a row before I start cutting & welding .

Thanks again , guys . You're helping me in mass amounts !
Posted By: Pre98 Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/24/05 10:11 PM
The Trubends Magnaflow setup sits directly adjacent to the tow hooks, but they do not rub or hit them at all.
Posted By: warmonger_dup1 Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/24/05 10:23 PM
you have enough room for the 14" magnaflow oval mufflers. That's what I run. They are only a bit longer than the stockers.

Posted By: NorMich99SE_dup1 Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/25/05 05:45 PM
Well, this is the best pic I could find, not really that great. Tips are from TruBendz, and I ended up cutting off those tie down things under the car. Future plans should end up with these tucked up into the cover like the SVT, but that comes when I can do a custom rear bumper.

Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/28/05 01:18 PM
Looks pretty good , Shawn . You should find yourself an SVT rear bumper & pop 'em through the lower valance .
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: Show me your TIPS - 11/28/05 01:25 PM
Now my next issue ... Should I go with the polished stainless Magnaflows ? Or should I just run the aluminized ?

What did you guys do ?

I know they'll basically be hidden under my car & noone will see 'em but me , but I'm still leaning towards the stainless ones on principal . I don't have to worry about it (an aluminized muffler) rotting out because of inclimate weather , a ton of miles or anything like that .

Is it worth all the extra wampum ?? I'd imagine there's no difference in sound or flow (stainless vs. aluminized) . The only difference I can think of is that my car might be faster with the stainless mufflers , due to my wallet being lighter .

Thoughts ??

Thanks for the pics , Crystian . It looks like they wouldn't have had to cut so much off your tow hooks , but at least they're still there (albeit not nearly as strong) . How close do the pipes come to the rear suspension arms ? I'm thinking I may mount mine about an inch further under the car (just beyond the tow hooks) . They're center in/center out aluminized , right ?

I've already made a "factory-looking" mount/hook for the passenger side rubber hanger to hang from - looks exactly like the driver's side . It'll mount through the "frame" of the car (through the hole in the tow hook) , so at least both sides will be hung the same & look factory . I'm figuring the lower hook will be welded to the pipe between my muffler & the tip on both sides . I'm not going to use the factory passenger mount behind the bumper .

The only reason I'm even entertaining the thought of aluminized mufflers is the fact that they'll not be seen (much like the factory mufflers aren't seen) . Like I said , odds are , I'll pony-up for the stainless , but I'm open for discussion on the idea , as it may also help someone else in the future .

Thanks for the compliment. When I can find the time (and an extra rear bumper cover) I'm going to try my hand at custom bumper making and try to graft the lower portion of an E46 M3 rear cover onto the upper portion of regular contour bumper. I already have a very good condition M3 cover, now I just need a spare Contour one, and the nerve to start cutting!

Oh, and on the alum. vs stainless issue. I have a trubendz aluminized with a Dynomax polished stainless muffler, and have had it on for just over a year. As of my last oil change (earlier this month) everything still looked good, except the polished stainless was dirty, lol. And the sound is quite nice....
