Zero.

That's a bit of oil you're burning. How many miles do you have on it and what kind of driving do you usually do?

I don't burn it, I leak it ..... oil pan gasket. A job for springtime.

Either Zero or certainly a none recognisable ammount, 40800 mls 98 V6 Mondeo, I have also only topped up my coolant expansion tank once in 3 years.

I guess I burn about half a quart between oil changes...

I never actually measure how much oil I drain out of the engine when I change the oil, but, the level on the dipstick NEVER changes.

my parents cars don't burn oil either

Mine doesn't burn any noticable amount. Stays on the same place on the dipstick. I've got a really small front seal leak as well. That is with 65K miles and 15K of those with the vortech.

I probably use half to a quarter quart of oil between oil changes and my car has 57,000 miles. Do you use synthetic or regular oil?

Mobil 1 and Royal Purple since first oil change

I know I drain nearly 1/2 a quart (cumulatively) from my oil seperator in the time between oil changes.

Otherwise it would all go down the intakes!!!

I do notice the the more I get on the engine (I.E. higher rpms) the more oil in the seperator. Which of course makes sense, but I stated it just for reference.

Zip. Oil level on dipstick does not go down between oil changes every 3000 miles. I use 5W30 Mobil dino oil. I just hit 150,000 miles.

If you bought the car new then that is likely why you have an oil consumption problem.

Switching to synthetic oil that quickly did not let the rings seat properly and therefore you are getting excessive blow-by (loss of performance, mileage, longevity and high oil consumption)

The manual even states waiting for 4500-6000 miles before changing to synthetic.

I don't know. With so many cars coming from the factory with a synthetic factory fill...I'm not sure I believe that anymore.

BTW...your owner's manual said to wait 4500-6000 miles?

Mine (from '98) didn't mention any specific interval for a switch to synthetic.

1. A handful of performance cars out of hundreds of models. Not "so" many!
Cylinder honing/finish and ring composition determine seating time.
If Ford recommends to wait for 4000-6000 miles (checked manual) then they probably have a good reason for it being as they know the engine honing method & finish and the rings used.

2. Yes it's in the SVT supplement. (page 13) Scanned pics have been posted multiple times in the past.

No indicated usage between changes (4-5K)

Does anyone have a link to that. Synthetic lubricants are just not mentioned at all in my SVT supplement.

I have 160k on mine, and I've never lost a drop. I also measure it very carefuly because I think it will help me determine a problem early. the only time I ever had less than 6 was when I had to have jiffy lube change it, and they only put 5 quarts in it. I also never go any longer than about 3500 miles in between. I live on a dusty road, so I figure I have to.

At 90K, vitually nil; drip a bit now and then. Probably the pan gasket.
Used syn since about 2,000 miles.
