I need help diagnosing a problem with my Contour. I put it in drive and it doesnt go anywhere. It just sits there and doesnt move at all. I need help. It sounds good but doesnt move. The brake lights work but it still doesnt move, and the horn also works. I checked the planetary and looks good. what is wrong with my Contour. Is it done for? Should I push it into a brick wall. Any help would be great.
. Scan it for CEL codes and post. You may have to borrow a scanner as it won't "move" to Autozone or Advance for a free scan. It appears that you have an ATX. Check the AT Fluid level and maybe change the fluid if it is not clear pink/red. Also the shifter might have been disconnected at the bottom of the vehicle. Might have to go under the vehicle to look. Good luck.
Might be the MLPS switch, it is about 45 bucks, located on top of the trans below and to left of the battery, looking from the front of the car. The Manual Lever Postion Switch tells the computer which tells the trans to engage the selected gear. If you do get reverse, the switch could be the problem.
