Hello All,

From this forum, I was told that the stock fuel injectors were 17lb. I just upgraded my fuel injectors to 19lb. But according to this certified Ford technician (http://www.justanswer.com/ford/2w83j-97-4-6l-sohc-mustang-gt-just-installed-ported.html), I found out that the stock fuel injectors (part# 968F-AC) are 21lb. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm starting to believe that the stock injectors are 21lb because after I put the 19lb in, I've notice a power loss in the car. I had to increase the fuel pressure to 48 psi to get some of the power back. Can anyone here shed some light on this?:help:

All of the Grey Denso fuel injectors are 17lb injectors, with one exception being 19lbs. I suspect your power loss with the 19lb injectors is from being too rich as you will need a tune to account for the larger injector. more fuel alone does not equate to more power made, you need the airflow as well. Unfortunately, i cant find anything that gives a flow rate for any of the numbers on the spare Zetec fuel injectors i have sitting around (same 968F-AC) to confirm that they are either 17lbs or that the chart shown in your link is correct.

Thanks Striker for the info. I tried looking all over the internet to find the flow rates for the stock injectors, but couldn't find anything. If you do hear or find something on the stock injectors, please share it with me. I would definitely like to know if that chart is correct or not. In the meantime, I guess I'll put the stock injectors back in until I can get a tune.

Today, I went to the junkyard and pulled some stock fuel injectors from a '97 Zetec Contour. According to the speedometer on the car in which I pulled them from, the injectors has about 66,000 miles on them. I then took them to a local shop that ultrasonically cleans fuel injectors to have them cleaned up and tested for proper operation. During the cleaning process, the fuel injectors were tested for flow rates. The results are in the attachment.

With these results, it's easy to conclude that the stock fuel injectors for the Zetec engine (part# 968F-AC) are indeed 21lbs. So the chart listed in the link in my first post of this thread is correct!

wow, assuming they used the same 44PSI as the pulsed flow rate test, that means the injectors are actually 24# injectors. thats good to know as they could then be used for a decent amount more power than previously thought, as well as they make an easy injector to find for those going full 3L with EV1 style connectors. That certainly explains how i had no problems making 120+WHP on the stock injectors, as that would be ~141BHP, which is more than 17 (or even 19) lb injectors could handle.

Edit: I never heard anything back from the other guys but I will call tomorrow and see if they can confirm the findings as well.

Funny that you mentioned this Striker. I asked the guy at the shop this same question. His response was that Ford typically rates their injectors lower than what they are actually operate at. In other words, it's a 24lb injector, but Ford rates it at 21lb. This definitely explains why I had a power loss when I put the 19lb injectors in. And yes, the shop did use 44psi pulsed flow rate for the test.

I was looking at getting some ford racing 19lb injectors, you can pick up a used set of 8 on ebay for like $70. Sounds like they're actually a downgrade in terms of flow. But then there is the issue of atomization, I've read that the stock injectors have 1 hole as opposed to the 4 holes of the ford racing injectors. It could be that the ford racing injectors are rated lower than actuall as well. I'll just skip the injectors it looks like and focus my $ elsewhere.
