used the st220 engine for my 3l conversion in my st24, and next year will drop the engine again to replace a leaking crankshaft seal , fit svt flywheel and quaife lsd
anyway the 3l conversion I chose was port matched with the bugsuki plates, and retained the st220 cams
the dyno shows it makes power to the redline, but when you are in 3rd gear full throttle you can feel it going flat over the top 1500 revs,
piper cams list a reprofile for the v6 duratec , and I guess that gives me a choice of either having the st220 cams reprofiled, or do I get a set of st200 [svt] cams and have those reprofiled for a bit more performance .
will call them next week to get some figures of their profiles , and what they suggest

Art - Hopefully I caught you in time, but if you really want some performance have Piper give you the Mountune Noble stage 1 regrind on your ST220 cams.

Are the LSAs of the Mountune cams proper for an NA car (I'm not sure if Art's car is boosted or not.)? I'd imagine they have a lot less overlap for the boosted application. I don't know much about the Mountune grind...

Yes, Piper advertises it as their ultimate road grind. Otherwise I wouldn't have recommended it. Also remember that the Nobles use the factory ST220 cams out of the box for their engines.

EDIT: I thought I had a link for the cam, but as it turns out they use the same numbering for a lot of their cams. One would have to call and inquire specifically about it.

Hey art; i can recommend an aluminium flywheel instead of an ST200. 9lbs vs. 20lbs
Car rev's nicely and stories of stalling are unfounded. ..... G.

think i will go with piper for st220 regrinds if i decide to do the cams, has anyone figures for the noble stage 1 regrind to compare with the st220 cam figures
to give an idea where i am at , and if good or bad my base is an st24 so i still have the beige injectors , st24 ecu, std airbox with an extra cold air feed
st220 engine with st200 manifolds, tb, racebits headers, bat y pipe and cat. mongoose centre pipe and remus twin silencers
so on the dyno with custom remap crank figures made 215 sae @ 6500 to the redline at 7100 and 188 ft lb at 5070
on my winter strip now i have half shafted and knife edged tb, knife edged butterflies of lower manifold, and waisted down lower section of shaft on the long runner ports, so when butterflies open and shaft turns 90 degrees it becomes a thinner profile , a bit like half shafting the tb, except it is by 6 times on the lim ports, also knife edged the lower part of the lim ports, as they meet the st220 engine oval ports , so hoping will find some more on the dyno this year

also ram air project , picked up an st200 airbox and installed k&n airfilter, noticed it had many more pleats than the filter i had in the st24 airbox
flexi hose and belmouth connected and sealed to st200 intake running down past gearbox
2 nd flexi hose and belmouth sealed into main air feed to air box ,through inner guard, large hole drilled in metal front panel , so hose bends round behind the morette headlamp and into the front bumper area, so both bel mouths exit at front grill, with the centre bar removed from bumper to get a good flow
if anyone interested in what i have done can post some pics
so before anyone tells me i will need to go at 190 mph before i get any ram , i use a digital manometer as part of my job , will read 1 millibar and minus figures also , so this spring i will bring it home for the weekend plumb it into the tube between the maf and tb , take it for a drive and record readings at 10 mph increments , and say a full throttle 3rd gear run , anyway when i do it i will post the figures .
carried out a similar exercise around 10 years ago on my zzr1100 kawasaki , which has ram air as standard, and kawasaki claimed worth 10hp at 180 mph , anyway i was surprised at the time when manometer showed 1 mb at 30 mph , and as i plotted my figures up to 140 mph is clear is an expedential graph and continuing it on to 180 mph would have been around 1lb of boost , and a lot more at the 200mph plus it is capable of now
anyway i am sure my setup is not going to equal kawasakis , but any positive figures if i can get them will help hp

art I would just contact Piper and let them know what you have and what your goals are. If they can't help you contact the guys at Mountune.
