basically what the title says. My g/f 96 gl's a/c compressor froze up on the 2.0 4 cyl model. Or actualy it was froze up when we bought it. I'm going to the junk yard to buy another compressor. If I can't find a 96 contour what other year models fit this car? I know about the mystique, and that will fit, but will a Taurus a/c compressor fit? sable? will the V6 model contour a/c compressor fit? I think the 99-02 cougars fit. Anyone know for sure what other model/year car's a/c compressors will work on the 96 contour? Also anyone know of a DIY on a dryer/accumulator and orfice tube install? the haynes manual does not give any info on a/c work. I'm just trying to get this car ready for the summer. thanks for your help

I found a 1996 Lincoln continental a/c compressor.& it fits,& works perfect. The electrical connecter is located in a different spot, but it still plugs in. Other than that, it's a perfect match!!! The A/C works now!!!

ok. for those of you that have a 4 cyl contour. DO NOT use a Lincoln continental compressor. The pulley does not line up with the rest of the pulleys. I had the belt rip to shreads today. I should have checked for that before. I ended up finding a compressor from a 99 mustang, and it matched almost perfect, and the pulley does line up with the other pulleys perfect. The compressor does work for this car very well. I even tested it on a long country drive. No problems at all, and it was freezing inside the 1996 contour. The only difference in the compressor is you'll need the original bolts from the 99 mustang (they are longer), and the compressor will be a little closer to the lower radiator hose, but the belt fits, and the compressor will work good. Also you'll need some washers for the longer bolts, and you'll need to put them between the bolt head and compressor because the bolts are so long, or you can grind them down 1/4 inch on each bolt. it beats paying 150-200 for a new or re-built compressor. only paid 75.00 for the compressor, got some freon, a new belt and an orifice tube, & now the car gets so cold inside. Hope this helps someone.
