What are my options for inspection? (MA)

I need to fix the rust first, though. I want to keep it from spreading. I want this car to last me a few more years. :blackeye:

sure that is the best idea but to pass inspection at another station put some side skirts on so its hidden ....

you can simply put duck tape over it and paint it... the book only says no sharp surfaces...i used to help inspect cars all the time and we could say crap about it..i guess the own of the place failed a car for the duck tape and the guy called the hotline and won..

Never heard of that, when I worked at the garage years ago and and did inspections under the old tail pipe sniffer testing we would reject those type of repairs. They don't allow those qiuck fixes anymore because they can fall of or be remove exposing the hazard. In the CMR 540 section 11 sub par. 4 they state no holes in the floor pan or other body panels that would allow exhaust fumes into the car, the rocker panel is part of the floor panels construction, even if a state person came out to look at it the rocker would fail.

I would still try the metal tape or duck tape idea myself and see if I could get it through and then do the fix later when time permits. I agree it's up to the garage most of the time but I'm hearing the RMV is coming down on these guys for some reason.
