I have been thinking about it and i thought of this. Since the 3.4 liter SHO engine is based on the 2.5 liter Duratec engine. wont it fit in the contour/mystique? you would have to customize the wiring harness because the SHO does not use plug wires or coil.

Am I wishing or is it possible?

any interchangeable parts?

Use it.

There's a button at the top of this page. It reads: Search

If you click on that button, and then type in what you're looking for, you're going to come up with 500 pages of people telling you how horrible of an idea it is. Unfortunately, you're not the only person to ask this question.

The simple answer is that there is room under the hood and between the frame rails for the SHO V8 to fit. There is not room for that engine AND a transmission to fit.

Take a tape measure to it yourself and see if you could fit two more cylinders in there.

If you really must have two more cylinders, maybe you could fit them into the trunk.

it is possible to get a v8 in a mk1 mondeo so it should be possible to fit one in a contour. I dont know what engine they used and they haven't quite finished yet but a couple of guys on the mondeo forum in the uk are doing it :)

ive got 3 V8 contours, FWD, RWD, and AWD. depends on my mood. You guys should get one.

With enough time and money most anything is possible, that doesn't necessarily make it worthwhile. As much as I would enjoy driving a blown Cobra powered Focus I would have never spent the money to buy a Focus as well as a complete Mustang Cobra and then the money to make the conversion. That is how at least the first one of those was made.

The point is that it would not be an easy project to put a V8 into a Contour. To keep it a front wheel drive would require some imagination with where to put the transmission or widen the car. To make it a rear wheel drive would require a lot of floor pan rework as well as structural improvements to mount a rear differential as well as the transmission and driveshaft tunnel.

If you have a link for the Mondeo I would be interested to see how they did it.

On the topic of conversions that probably don't have much purpose, about 30 years ago running around the streets of Bakersfield California was a Chevelle with a war surplus Allison aricraft V12 engine in it. It took up so much space that the driver had to be relocated to the rear seat. If a way can be found to put an Allison V12 into a Chevelle, then a way can be found to put a V8 into a Contour, but you may not end up with something that much practicle use.

Wasn't there an AWD Mondeo? That's probably what they used to make it rear-drive.

Yep, I've been looking into those. Mondeo Si with the 1.8, I think. They were full time 4x4 from what I can gather, but maybe it's just technical translation from English to english that may have me off base there...

I also saw a post that indicated the system could be adapted to the V-6 cars, but I haven't confirmed a car with a full swap as yet. Would be hella fun. 3.0L AWD MTX... :ponder:

Dude.. I don't even need to OPEN that one.. I KNOW what's coming.

Coulda had a..

:D
