Upholstery

those are slip-ons...if you're looking for do-it yourself upholstery kits like Katzkin, they'll run upwards of $1k nowadays.

I've reupholstered a few vehicles now & never used directions. It's best to take note when removing the factory upholstery before installling the new. It's not at all that difficult, hardest part is keeping it tight. I think I've seen factory seat covers available here in the classifieds that you could replace yours w/ inexpensively. If your foam is worn under the upholstery, you'll have a bigger headache to deal w/ & be better off just finding a decent replacement seat.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions, if you can find what you're looking for.

I dont think anyone here has reupholstered seats themselves. (Did bagged do his center pieces himself or did he have it sourced out?) Most people have either had them done professionally, or have done some sort of seat dying. Other options are aftermarket seats, seat covers that will probably look cheap and fit poorly.

I think the process to do it is to take apart your old seat covers so that you have a bunch of little panels that make up the seat cover. Make patterns from that with the new material. Then sew it all together with some sort of industrial sewing machine that can handle thick materials.

I have installed pre-sewn kits...katzkins & autoleathers are kits that are also used by new car dealers & fit as well as factory if installed properly & cost about half as much as going to an upholstery shop.

yeah, I think mikey boy(can't remember who currently owns it) had katzkins seat covers installed and they were a beautiful fit!

I have katzkins in my sportage...I purchased them from their "deals" page, which is no longer in existance for $400. It was a page used to get rid of cancelled/wrong color/etc orders.

I thought Mikey's were custom made by an upholstery shop

you have a machine that can sew the heavy stuff? you'll wind up w/ half a grand in that alone, by the time you get the yardage & other materials needed, you'd be better off buying pre-made & have it fit correctly the first time.

Most "newer" sewing machine are strong enough to do heavy material if you go slow. The most important this is the needle, in which you need it to be heavy enough not to break.
