underseat rust

After I removed the passengers side front seat for renovation, I noticed that the underside mountings were showing signs of surface rust (but no pitting). I wiped the rusty surfaces with Evapo-Rust, but should I be removing the rust and coating the surfaces to prevent later problems ? Or is this too O-C ?
