So today i was looking into why my key will not unlock my trunk, i was looking at the mechanism and found a red latch...so i flipped it:shrug: after that i went to try the key and it didn't work and so i pulled the latch inside the car and nothing... I guess that locks the trunk from being open from inside the car?

so is there any way to get into the trunk?

i have fold down seats but i thought you had to pull the lever inside the trunk to lower them...i gave them a good pull and nothing, :blackeye:

hmm, the red switch should only disconnect the interior release handle as far as I remember.

try your keyless entry remote if you have one.

I once wondered why my key was not working on the trunk lock, too. It was brought to my attention that the lock itelf has frozen due to lack of use. As for the red latch, I'm not sure.

key less remote will not open the trunk...its the one button that is broke. The key hole just feel seized but i don't see a good way to open it.
i tried some penetrating spray and got nothing

get the trunk open, and take the lock apart and soak it in penetrating oil, work the pins until they move freely. I just did mine a few weeks ago, its pretty easy.

i almost locked myself out of my trunk the lock was busted in the accident from the previous owner and when i got the car i was looking around to see what little features it had well i flipped the lockout switch and then couldnt get it to stay in the unlock position, so i ripped out the lock so i could use a screwdriver. a few days later i got the lockout switch to go back to the unlock position and it is staying there

now that you have disabled the remote latch release by flipping the red lever inside the trunk, you have two choices: through the back seat or remove the lock itself. before i removed the lock and had to buy a lock cylinder i would spend a dollar on a new key and attempt to use pliers with the key, if you break it, oh well you're only out a dollar.

on a lighter note, i hope you're never around the red button at a missile silo....lol.

i have a 1998.5 svt, Yeah i sprayed the key hole for a good 30 seconds and even inserted a red tube in there and spray, i might just try and get a key like you said and turn as hard as i can...they should not put red latches in cars if they are not suppose to be touched!

sorry buddy not much you can do there, like yours the seats are locked firmly and access is limited. fill the lock up with pb blaster or the like and head for the local hardware store for a key. wish i could help more.

Borrow a key fob from somebody and program it to your car. Search here on CEG for programming. I have read write up before and seemed very easy to do. Then you can use trunk button on fob to open. Very common remote fob across many Ford models, just go by the numbers on backside.

yeah svttour already sent me a message about that and that may be the route i will take, i will just search the forums archives for the old posts on a how to basics

if that is an option here is how you do it.

get a four button fob model number gq43vt4t

and to program:

For the Keyless Entry Transmitter:

Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed.

Gather up ALL of the units you want to use.
Find a paper clip, open it up and reform it into a U shape.

Empty your glove box, squeeze the sides in, and drop it all the way down toward the floor.

Look at the harness behind the glove box. It runs along the cross brace. Look for a white, two pin, unterminated connector - it may be taped into the harness. This is the programming connector.

Turn the ignition ON so the dash lights come on.

Take your paper clip and insert it in to the two pin connector.

The horn will chirp to confirm that you are in programming mode.

Press any button on Transmitter #1.

Horn will chirp to confirm programming.

Press any button on Transmitter #2.

Horn will chirp to confirm programming.

Repeat for Transmitter #3 and #4 if applicable.

Remove paper clip from connector.

Turn igniton OFF, horn will chirp to confirm exit from programming mode

I was playing with that red latch in the trunk. I have a 98 mystique w/ a spoiler and when I switched the red latch I was unable to open the trunk unless someone opened it while I was pulling up on the relase latch inside the car.

So I would try doing this if you haven't already.

This probably won't solve your key problem but maybe you will get the trunk open
