I have a 99 ATX and it has been leaking for some time now. I beileve it could be leaking out from around the pan. Whats involved to change this pan gasket. What is the big circle (maybe soft/freeze plug) on the bottom of the tranny? Is there a chance that that could be leaking?

You will have to perform a decent visual inspection to see where the leak is at. There is no substitute.

Once you've identified the source of the leak, then we can advise you on what the repair entails.

The circle on the bottom is the overdrive servo cover. It's somewhat common for this cover to corrode and leak. When it leaks while driving, the fluid can blow across the transaxle making it difficult to determine where the leak is coming from.

The cover can be replaced from underneath without the need to remove the transaxle. The parts should cost less than $15 + fluid + about one hour labour.

Get it checked ASAP. It may be a slow leak now but can quickly escalate and ruin your transaxle.

Clean the "leaked area" well. Then throw some talcum powder on it. The source of leak should show easily after a short drive.
