My manual says to replace the tensioner spring and the retaining screw. I have found a part number for the spring,F5RZ-6L273-A. The number for the retaining screw I have is W700001-S1309 doesn't come up. Is there new part numbers or can't I get this part?

Thanks for any info

are you talking about the timing belt tensioner pulley or the serpentine belt tensioner?

the bolt and spring are only used to set the tension on the belt. they do not stay installed on the engine.

Do I need the spring and screw for timing belt replacement or can I do it without them?
Thanks

i did it without. look in the zetec howto's for a belt replacement by zx2fast.

That's it, fall right into that trap. There are enough posts to choke an elephant here onsite about all the people that do that and wreck the belt. By probably a factor of ten compared to the ones that luck out with it. These motors require much less belt tension than most people think, either too tight or too loose either way by just a little bit and it's belt scrap city. If you can get the spring you have won the battle most lose.

I strongly suggest you go to the zetec section and do a search on timing belt issues.

timing belts in general require less tension than most people realize. the belt on my VR4 (6G72 engine, V6 with DOHC) only requires you to put 7lb-ft of torque on the tensioner to be set properly.

My point exactly. They need to be taut and nothing more. Most people fall into the trap of thinking they must be as tight as the old v belts. These loose enough that once belt has super mileage on it, it actually seems too loose but runs just fine. Use the tensioner or spring supplied, can't go wrong there.

This has been helpful. I have the new belt and tensioner, does anyone have a current part number for the screw?
Thanks
