I'm getting mixed opinions on this, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

When checking the oil, I get a solid oil level on the dip stick, but that's kinda toward the minimum point. BUT, there is a thin line of oil on one side of the dip stick that reads full.

Now I've been told that:
"I always go by the thicker area/line of oil. For some reason there is always a thin line going up. It's probably from rubbing the inside of the tube when pulling it in and out"

Help me out here. I never really had to check the oil in the last Contour because it didn't leak or burn any oil. I tried asking around but I kept getting mixed opinions.

Go with the lowest point of oil on your stick is the general rule i go by. But remember that the contours have the problem where if the oil light comes on while your going on a on/off ramp (making a right turn around 40-W/E speed) every one says you have about 20miles left before your engine goes out. So they say to put in 6 quarts and you should be fine.

Its recommended to use 6.5 quarts in the 2.5L. That puts the oil line about a 1/2" above full. Your oil level on the dip stick should be solid. not that skinny line of oil.

its recommended to run between 6 and 6.5 qts of oil (depending on who you ask) to help prevent oil starvation on long, high RPM, sweeping, right hand turns. I run 6 because i just dont want to have to open another qt. lol

wow you suck, the owners manual says 5.8 qts. ROUSH figured out that it is ok to run 6.5 qts. They prepared the Bondurant SVT Contours. next time make sure you know what you are talking about.

edit: Sorry I had a long day. I didn't mean to be a douche.

The reason you read the lower point is beacause of adhesion of liquids. The molecules tend to "climb" the walls of whatever the liquid clings to. Just like when you look through a test tube, you read the bottom of the "meniscus." Don't know what I'm talking about? Google it.
