Bill Putney
New CEG'er
I used to hang out here 3 or 4 years ago.
Anyway - this is on a Zetec Mystique, but it applies to Duratec too probably, so I've posted here.
I have a vague recollection of temperature sensors being available for our cars with different calibrations (seems like it was two choices - regular, and one to shift the gage readings down a little). I don't recall if this was in aftermarket or OEM parts. IOW, you could specify a sender that would shift the temperature gage reading a little lower in case your gage read high with a totally normal engine temperature. Or am I thinking about the switch that controls the fan that you could get parts with two different calibrations?
Anyway, if anyone remembers whatever the heck it is I'm talking about, please refresh my memory.
The gage is reading under the 'A' in NORMAL, and get's pretty close to the 'L' at times. I have no reason to believe that it is running hot, and my daughter has been driving it for a couple of years so I don't remember what the gage normally read (I just replaced the head gasket along with new water pump, thermostat, hoses, t-belt, etc.). I'm getting ready to sell it, so would like to get it reading in the middle or lower part of the gage range and would buy a sender that was intended to do that if available. Not trying to fool a potential buyer - I just have no reason to believe it's running on the high end of temperature and every reason to believe the gage just reads high.
TIA!
