The tachometer on my 1995 Contour V6 auto is not working at all.
Where should I start with the troubleshooting?

Early or late 95. Early had a cable that could go bad late had a VSS that could have an issue

VSS would also effect the speedometer. If the speedometer is working properly, then it rules out the VSS. Hence my question.

Presently I would wager dimes to dollars it's a cable driven early 95 with a problem in the cable.

hint if your trip meter has an orange # in the tenths spot it cable driven

I have to hand it to you Royalblue. Every now and then, especially on a new car forum, someone astounds me with random trivia. This is one of those occasions.

not sure if I hear sarcasm or not:shrug:

BUT either way I have both types of 95's

Thanks for the hint.
I have checked for orange pound signs yet. But checked for obvious cable coming through the fire wall into the engine bay, could see one.
will first do the the orange pound sign check.

orange # sign!!!!!! hahaha, you can't make that •••• up! oh that was funny!

why are we talking about the speedometer when the original question was about the tach? all tachs are "electric", none where cable driven ....

I was looking for a cable coming out of the firewall to see if that is the culprit.
If cable driven, where would I find the cable in the engine bay?
