Folks,

So after being gone from home for so long and entrusting my roommate to turn my car on periodically (which of course he didn't do ). I get a fresh battery nestled in and go to turn on my poor SVT my I unknowingly rip the "valet" light/button wires out with my boot. Can someone do me a favor and look under their steering column and let me know the wiring configuration. Hopefully I wont have to have any computer work done at the dealer$hip!

What I know:
1. There's 2 contacts on the valet light/button (one side has a "+", which I'm guessing is the positive charge).

2. There are 3 wires (a blue , a green and an orange).

Some info....
Year: 1998
Make: FORD
Model: Contour SVT
Engine size: V6 Duratec
Transaxle: MTX
Mileage: 93000
Color : Tred

Thanks

no Contours came with a security system that had a valet switch/setup. the only stock system was the PATS system, sounds like the car has some sort of aftermarket system.

contours did not have factory alarms. there is no valet switch. sounds like you might have a Ford add on alarm. you need to find out what kind of alarm you have installed.

Look under the steering column, 98% of aftermarket alarm "brain" modules are mounted under the column. Once you find it, you should have all the info you need to get your answers.

Damn and the bad luck rolls along. Thanks for the reply's guys. I did originally think it was an after market system because the wiring looked a little ghetto, but when i followed the wires to chase down the module it was a genuine Ford part. If anyone has suggestions on removing the module I would love to hear those as well.

Does it not run because of this? Bring it to a car audio shop and have them remove it they will probably charge you 30-60 bucks and it will take them 20 minutes. I would imagine a genuine ford alarm might fetch some decent money on ebay so make sure you get it back from them.

Yeah man, hasn't turned on since those wires got detached. Im going to have to take it somewhere. A car audio shop may be the most economical.

Drop the underdash and steering column shroud. Make sure the alarm does not have a starter kill. Find the group of thick wires (12 gauge)..the grey/white wire is your starter wire. If it is cut and goes to a relay or the brain box reconnect the wire and it and it will start.

The reason it looks ghetto and its a genuine Ford part is because it was probably dealer installed and 'auto techs' should not be touching electrical systems.

Right on. Really appreciate the info. When I get back to the States I'm going to break it down and let you all now how it went.
