Are they unique to Contour. $55.00 seems a little extreme for just a little gear??? Any options?

That's the only place that makes-sells them. They have cornered the market!! Actually they are made of a much harder plastic, not the soft plastic that was used by Ford. I bought one for my car and have had no problems.

I bought one and needed a replacement 2 weeks after install.
Got a free replacement. Just paid shipping. But it only lasted 5 months.
Have emailed numerous times with no reply from them for abot 8 months.
The lifetime replacement warranty does not work if they ignore your emails.

Lasted 1 week for me, with everything installed correctly. You have to pay $6.75 shipping everytime it strips. It costs less then that for then to mail it because it's so light. No way is it better than the factory one.

Wow, I didn't realize aftermarket gear was crappier then the stock gear. I didn't think anything could be worse than the stock gear.

The manufacturer states the larger Diameter (same tooth count ???) is intended to allow for a worn motor case, specifically the upper and lower holes that locate the gear. The blue plastic plug (removable) they say aids in stabilizing the ger, I say that, along with larger diameter create more drag causing the worm gear to often climb up the teeth on the replacement gear. I'm not sold. These gears can't cost remotely close to $55.00 to manufacture, profit is not a bad word but please.....................

I have the one in my car drag and run slowly from something. I have to help the glass complete closing. My parts car (same year) works smoothly. I say don't blame the gear untilyou have made sure the system doesn't bind. I am going to see this spring if a clean and lube is enough. Or, I'll swap the complete system between cars.
When I looked in the control remember there is no torque limiting like the window one touch down feature. It is designed to run until the gearbox rotates to the stop cam switch detents. So a sticking moonroof will have the motor over torque the gear.
Queston: do people that have the one touch down ever have it stop short from motor overload?

I think the original gear is used in another application, because it is splined in the center on each side. It think it is used in a window motor mechanism. I can't believe a unique gear was created when Webasto sat down to create the "Contour sunroof motor"
While on this subject, Is the same motor iused for a 2000 model as on 98 or 99??

It is the same for 1995-2000 Contour. It is the same for Cougar also I think. I have the 96 motor in my 2000. Svttour even ordered a Mondeo sunroof hand crank and installed it in the Contour.
