Might anyone happen to know what size nut fits the stock shifter? I'm weighing some creative options for shift knobs for my 2000 SVT. Searched around, but didn't see this info.

That's a good question. I took both my SAE and Metric tap and die sets out to my car and remove the shift knob to try to match it up.

A 7/16" x 20 tap fits the handle very well, but is too small for the shifter shaft. A 1/2" x 20 tap is too big for handle, but loose on the shaft.

A 12mm x 1.50 tap is loose in the handle but otherwise seems to fit, but the die is too small for the shaft. I don't have a 13mm, but it is probably very close to the 1/2"

Anyway, I've told you what doesn't fit, so that may help it trying to figure it out.

Does anyone else know for certain?

I'll figure out exactly what it is tomorrow morning for you. I was actually wondering, I just ordered a shift knob finally and I am figuring it's probably not gonna fit as is.

I have posted this several times, you can confirm with a search. Yes it is the same as 05+ mustangs 12mm x 1.25. Not to be confused with 79-04 mustangs that use 12mm x 1.75.

Yep M12 x 1.25.

Though I did use a m12 x 1.75 bolt at first in my stock shifter, it went in fine but that has plastic threads. I guess I'll be using a helicoil on my aluminum shifter knob I just ordered (early mustang knob).
