Anyone give me a run down on the towns bordering ct/ma line? Agawam,Southwick and such?

Our house will be going on the market hopefully by the end of the month and we are planning to live on the MA/CT border or as close as possible. Looking for a town with well spaced houses, trees, land and non-ghetto people.

I will still be working in Farmington,ct, so we have to live as close as possible but hopefully still in Mass.

Thanks for the help.

Bear in mind you will be paying MA and CT income taxes. The lesser of the two will be refunded back to you every April, but it is something to consider.

Southwick, Agawam, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow all border CT. Longmeadow and the western portion of East Longmeadow have easy access to the highway. Unfortunately for you, the western portion of East Longmeadow and most of Longmeadow is rather densely populated. Eastern/Southern East Longmeadow has much more open land, but it a bit of a haul to the highway. Agawam or Southwick might be a bit more suitable, as Rt 57 provides decent access to the highway, but be wary of the South End bridge. It might also be better to cross the Enfield-Suffield bridge instead to avoid traffic, but I'm not sure how that bridge is traffic, although I do know they are currently doing major construction to it.

out my war sounds more like what you are looking for, but I am probably too far east. As for taxes, you pay CT income taxes in full, then you write off what you paid to CT on you MA taxes and pay the difference. In the end you end up paying MA tax right, but its not like you have to pay a ton. The way I look at it, is the property taxes are way less in MA, so I make out better than living in CT overall.
I think the numbers are something like 5% for CT, and 5.3% to MA, so you pay 5% to CT, write it off MA, and only pay .3% to MA, something like that.

i 2nd living out there ... agawam and southwick are pretty nice i grew up in agawam..

Thanks for the information, we are going to drive up SAturday afternoon and take a look, get a feel for the towns. Our house should go on the market in a few weeks, hopefully it will sell, fast i hope. Seems like the market is picking up, plus with all the first time home buyer rebates. If you see a Silver Volvo wagon with CT plates cruising around, thats probably us :)

Thanks
Matt

Check out Granby CT and Granville MA too. I grew up in Granby and love it out there. Springfield is a rough town, Holyoke is pretty rough too...Watch out for a wee bit of organized crime running our of Westfield. East Longmeadow MA has some nice areas and Wilbraham MA is really nice. I have a two police officer friends running in that town.
