Water doesn't hurt the alternator as much as you'd think, hell mine has been submerged plenty of times. Mud is what kills them.
Contours don't have marine alternators; nor are they Jeeps. In a V6 (like the SVT posted), it is mounted low in the engine bay, making a mini lake a major problem if exposed for too long. But I wil take Pen's work for it, and agree that mud is probably the worse of the two.Yeah it's mud that kills them my friends jeep has a marine alternator(modified to fit) and it holds up fine same as the battery and it seems to never give up and it sees tons of mud/water and the contour would be fine it's not deep enough to hurt it so I agree with pen.
