Yes, that is supposed to be my street, not a river.
 
i remember one time when i was little our street got like that as a result of a bad rain storm. except we live on a huge hill so the water was very fast moving.

we grabbed inner tubes and ran up the block and rode them down, probably the most fun i ever had at home lol
 
Water doesn't hurt the alternator as much as you'd think, hell mine has been submerged plenty of times. Mud is what kills them.

Yeah it's mud that kills them my friends jeep has a marine alternator(modified to fit) and it holds up fine same as the battery and it seems to never give up and it sees tons of mud/water and the contour would be fine it's not deep enough to hurt it so I agree with pen.

Contours don't have marine alternators; nor are they Jeeps. In a V6 (like the SVT posted), it is mounted low in the engine bay, making a mini lake a major problem if exposed for too long. But I wil take Pen's work for it, and agree that mud is probably the worse of the two.
 
Granted I have a tiny bit more of ground clearance, mine is also on the bottom of the engine. :laugh:

Although it does take less alcohol, less curses, and less time to do on mine. :laugh:

I just realized, if you have water hitting the Alt on the Contour, I think that'd be the least of your worries...I'd be more worried about water flowing through the door seals.

I agree with you and yeah the svt's are low but it was a joke about tubing.
 
that doesn't look like a contour he's driving in the pic??

anyway, i once drove through a puddle that was way too deep accidentally. deep enough i was afraid water was going to come through the doors. as long as you don't immediately park the car afterwards i don't see a problem. just let it run till it's dry.
 
That looks like Oshkosh last year at this time. We had a few million in flood damage,some lower areas had over 6' of water on the streets.
