So tonight before changing my oil, I decide to do a seafoam through the brake booster line.
One thing that is hard to find for starts is proper removal of the brake booster lines from the UIM. Why is this so hard to find? Pull out on the line, at the same time make sure you hold DOWN the small plastic flange which the line is installed into. It acts like a barb when pulling out your brake booster line. So if you hold it down, your brake boost line slips right out.
Anyways. Here we go.
Everyone is on vacation, so I am by myself in the garage. I understand its best to use two people doing this, but I want it done so I go ahead anyway. Remove the brake booster line, and cover it with electrical tape, cause engine probably wont start with vacuum leak. Start engine, holy cow there is a lot of vacuum on that electrical tape, its sucking a bowl right into it.
Test if engine still runs with electrical tape removed. Engine stalls severely, replace tape and idle revs high to bring idle back.
Holy cow this is going to be hard. I need to rev the engine keep the revs up, remove the tape, insert hose into hole and not spill seafoam.
Away I go, rev up the engine, remove tape, engine starts to stall. Quickly put hose into empty hole with liquid seafoam can on the other end. Starts sucking, engine speed increases. Everythings going well.
Two seconds later, oh crap!!!! Seafoam is spraying everywhere, smoke is pouring out of the exhaust, and engine idle starts to slow down. Idle is so rough it sounds like the engine is smashing its pistons with hydrolock. Smoke starts to come from the engine somewhere, not sure where. Garage is filled with thick white smoke.
Pull hose from vacuum hole, seafoam sprays everywhere, all over engine, all over floor. Engine keeps running, smoke keeps pouring out. Engine knocking and knocking and rattling. Oh crap, time to shut this down!!! Jump into car, turn key off. Engine keeps running!!!!!
Key is off, and in my pocket, and the engine keeps smashing and rattling. What in the hell is going on here!!!! Have to get his shut off somehow. Do I remove the battery? What in the heck do I do?? Maybe its a problem with the open vacuum hole!!! Cover the vacuum hole with my finger, engine speed increases slightly, then finally shuts off.
Garage is completely full with thick white smoke. Smoke alarm starts to go off. Damn it, is the smoke alarm connected to the security system, man I hope not. Engine is still smoking. ••••. Is the engine on fire? Who cares, get the smoke out of the garage, and investigate in a few seconds. Open both bay doors, fan smoke away from smoke alarm. Smoke alarm turns off, engine stops smoking.
Did I hydrolock it? Did I smash valves or bend rods? Reinstall brake booster line. Wait 20 minutes for all seafoam to drain down just in case the cylinders are full of it.
Roll car into driveway without starting in case it wants to catch on fire and burn my garage.
Start it up, barely idles - still burning seafoam. Rev it up, clears it out. Everything is fine.
