Replacement Power Antenna Mast?

Well... my mast gave out a while back and got stuck in the "up" position, which wasn't a problem except that the motor would run even though nothing was happening... but when some tweaker bent my mast the other day, I decided it's time to replace it.

Fearing eBay quality, I opted to go to the dealer this morning figuring $40-50 for a replacement mast.

The guy behind the counter gladly sold me his last F3AZ-18A886-A, and let's just say that $94.72 later (evidently list price of $87.91 plus tax), I'm suffering from a little bit of buyer's remorse.

It's bad enough local premium gas is $4.69+ and it cost me $56 to fill up on my way back.

I think I'll suffer through this antenna mast install since I may be subject to a 20% re-stocking fee, but at the very least I'm hoping that someone will share some options for next time.

yeh, sorry to hear that. about 2 years ago, my ex broke my mast, and i got one from ebay for about $15 and it was veeery good quality. i broke it again two weeks ago, got another one for $16 and replaced it again....

I bought one through ebay. It looked just like the Ford original. After I installed it I found them a Pep Boys for the same price, less shipping. It also looked like the Ford original part.

I looked at Pep Boys & Kragen (CSK), but didn't see 'em. I've gotten a replacement at Pep Boys for a Toyota and it's worked fine.

I was just a little apprehensive at the sub-$20 generic eBay ones.

I bought my entire assembly from a fellow CEG'r who had an extra one in the garage from a junkyard. I think I paid $10 shipped. If you keep your eye on the classifieds grab one for a spare. That's what I'm doing for parts that will get broken at some point in time (sunroof motor, seat motor, antenna, etc.) Good luck!

I picked up two complete power antennas from the local boneyard for $18 when my original gave out. One came from a Tour, the other a Mystique. Brought a little 12V battery jumper with me and tested them while still in the "donor" car. Always good to have a spare.

Thanks for all of your support.

I did the right thing and returned the overpriced Ford mast. I did get a full refund. I do generally get a discount at my regular dealer, but it was across town and I just wasn't in the mood to drive across town, waste more gas, or to beg to people I didn't know nor care to know (I hate dealers, and even though I do know parts guys, I don't like asking for favors).

Equipped with more information and the part number (I thank the dealer for that), I searched harder and located a genuine Ford part at a reasonable price on eBay from someone who obviously buys things at bankruptcy auctions and hopefully it will work out fine and dandy... assuming it arrives safely (my other concern with eBay -- ask me how I know this).

If it doesn't work out, I'll try the bargain guys, though when I originally looked some had some bad feedback and that drew me to the dealer. But I do see some eBayers that have some good feedback, so I'll certainly do business with them.
