Ok
heres the story.
bought the car last night. Prev owner had broke key off in ignition cylinder. you could put the 1/2 key in with the other part, and get it to turn for a while...then it finally got to where you just turned the inner portion in circles and nothing happened.

Got a new ignition cylinder, and removed covers for the steering column. Was able to manuver the inner portion of the cylinder enough to get the little button at the top pushed in a little, and pulled the cylinder out about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. No more. Now I cant get any further movement. I drilled a little into the hole on top...but that did nothing...I think I am past that part. I really dont know what the deal is.

Any ideas? Tips? At this point trying to drill out the old cylnder is about all I can come up with.

Seems like installation will be super easy once the old one is out.

Yeah....I did a search before i posted...followed the steps in that link...My problem is that the cylinder cant be turned to the accessory position to slide out...It looks like I will be drilling. That should be fun. I will keep you posted.

not that it is a given but others that have drilled out the ignition cylinder have damaged the steering column and have had to replace the whole thing.

OK, This weekend, we got the thing drilled out. What a pain. there is not a lot of room between the steering wheel and the ignition cylinder to fit a drill...but we made it work. Once it was out, it was a matter of aligning the new cylinder, and putting it in. Took about 10 minutes.

The only bad part was I got it put in, and hooked the battery up, turned the key....nothing. pulled out the cylinder, lined it up again...tried to start again...nothing. Did this about 5 times before my son asked me "Dad, are you pressing the clutch while you try to start it?"

Amazingly it fired right up then....DUH!!!
