Rear view mirror removal?

I used a small screw driver in the opening to slide it off...tight fit and a bit of a struggle, but it will come off without having to remove the glued-on base. Fyi, I removed mine to install a Gentex auto-dimming mirror.

Im installing a Gentex too. Was there any issues with the Ford mount coupled with the new mirror?
 
Yep, the slot on the bottom...I believe it slides up towards the headliner. To make sure, look through the front of the windshield to see how the base is mounted. It helps to wiggle the mirror a bit while you push up with the screw driver, but take your time...iirc, the Gentex mirror slides on easily and is secured with an allen head set screw.
 
I have already removed my rearview mirror, I just want to know if I tried to remove the mount would it harm the winshield.
 
$100 won't buy you a new installed windshield, more like $300 - so don't mess with it.
